Default Should I get HPV vaccinated?

Dear all,
This is not exactly a PCOS question...but related enough.
My doctor told me about the HPV vaccine and I have to decide whether or not to get vaccinated. So I thought I'd ask some of you for advice.
What do you all think ?
Thank you

About me:
I am a 25 year-old thin PCOS. No excess hair. Have cysts in the ovaries and hormone levels are abnormal. My mother and older sister had PCOS too and they both had surgery back in Ukraine, and that helped. I had been on BC for 8 (or 9?) years due to irregular periods. then I changed doctors and the new doctor told me to try to see how I 'd do w/o BC. Well, I 've had 1 period during the 6 months that followed and my skin is a bit worse and am going to ask her to put me back on BC. I am single and not trying to conceive right now but hopefully in the future ...I think having children is the most important thing.

If you're planning on being sexual active, I would suggest getting the vaccine. Men are carriers and there is no test at the moment for HPV in men. So you could get it from any man that you have sex with.

My doctor even suggested that I get the vaccine, but I'm already married and have never had it. So, I'm not worried about it. But if I were still single and dating, I would have.

I was talking to a nurse the other day about it and still have the brocure here with me. To give you my background, I'm 23 and have had 4 sexual partners. Currently in NZ its free to females under the age of 18 but if you are older than that you can pay $165 a dose for the vaccine. The nurse said that because I've had 4 sexual partners, its likely I've been exposed to, and contracted, some of the types of HPV. However there is also a chance that I haven't been exposed to any of the types that cause cervical cancer so if and when I have the money, I'm going to go for it.

On the other hand, one of my lecturers this year has done loads of research into the prevention of cervical cancer (ie the vaccines, smears...) and said that it may just put off the cancer for a few years, rather than rid it from the population entirely, should the vaccine wear off in a few years and we are exposed to the virus through the male population who were never vaccinated.

hpv is like a common cold. if you are young it will most likely go away on its own. It is probably better not to take it considering how little time its been on the market and the possible side effects of death, osteoporosis ect.. lots of little horror stories. Just have as little partners as possible and you will be fine. Also hpv causes cancer in 1 percent of women. personally i am 20 years old and I decided not to take it because of the research i did online about it. I also went to planned parenthood and they said I would be okay without too.

sorry p.s.! there have also been cases where the vaccine actually caused an outbreak of hpv warts in women who were already sexually active.

Thanks a lot! This was very helpful I think that I am not going to get it. I am very cautious with vaccines unless they are absolutely required.

I know i'm kinda late on this - but I just had an interesting conversation with a doctor the other day regarding vaccinations - particularly HPV. Apparently (and don't quote me on this - you'd have to research it yourself) it protects against 4/20 strains of HPV. When it first came out a few years ago it was THE VACCINE to get - now, hellooo side effects. There was even that girl in Britian I think that died from it? I don't know, I've become pretty much leary of any vaccine...I think they bring them out as big money makers without fully taking into account the benefits and risks years down the road. I encourage anyone to do their own research re: vaccinations.

ya medicine companies are making a ton of money off of this! its kind of like the swine flu vaccine...people are waiting in line to pump that stuff into their body and they don't even know the effects of it.

IMO, I dont think you should not have a vaccine because one person died of it.
People die from eating peanuts and that doesn't stop Joe Average from eating peanuts.

Have you got a link that you can share showing where and how those cases of hpv outbreaks were conclusively and solely linked to the vaccination and not to anything prior to the vaccine?

While I completely agree that a death is not reason enough to avoid a vaccine, I was using it as a point that sometimes I think they bring out vaccinations without knowing the full effect of either side effects of long term risks.

from the site
FDA documents reveal HPV vaccine may increase your risk of cancer if you already have HPV. In trials, Gardasil increased risk by 44.6% of developing high-grade precancerous lesions in women who are already sero-positive and PCR-positive for vaccine-relevant genotypes of HPV. However, pre-screening for HPV infections has not been included in the vaccination program.

I don't remember where I read about hpv vaccine causing outbreaks in otherwise dormant hpv infection but since it can inrease risk of cancer it makes sense how it increases risk of warts too. just search on google " hpv vaccine risks" and you will find tons of info!

There have also been reports of this vaccination causing Guillain-Barre. I definitely agree with doing research before getting any vaccination. Also, do some independent research about what ingredients are in the vaccine and what effects they are known to have.
