I was on glucophage 2000mg. for about 2 years, and I couldn't tell it did anything for me. I never had af. Now I'm on Avandia, have been about 1 year. I have had 1 af on my own since then. I have to take prometrium to have af. I am not insulin resistant. I just lost my health insurance and can now no longer take the Avandia (too $$$). Anyway I was wondering. My OBGYN told me I had to take either glucophage or Avandia or I would end up with diabetes. My RE told me that as long as I was not insulin resistant that I didn't have to take either. The only upside to the glucophage was that if I planned on having any fertility treatments that it could help. So my question is will stopping the Avandia make that much difference? Just wondering if any of your doctors have told you something similar. Any info. would be great. Thanks!

I am on Avandia for insulin resistance. From my understanding that my doctor told me - insulin resistance is the complete opposite of diabetis. A person with insulin resistance makes too much insulin and one with diabetis doesn't make enough insulin.
I wouldn't think with the small amount you are taking that it would make a difference. Some on-line drug stores sell avandia also. You could see if you could find it cheaper and take it once in awhile anyway?
I am taking the same amount as you for insulin resistance not ttc.
I am not TTC, but I am trying to get answers. Labwork shows PCOS, practitioner put me on Prometrium 100 as a supplemental. She is not Endo, so I have requested a consult to one. Does the Avandia have the same tummy comps as Glucophage? Can't take Glucophage b/c allergy to sulfa drugs. Thanks in advance for replying.

I haven't had any problems with my stomach at all. I have been taking it for about a year or more now. In fact just recently I have regular BM's ( I know how gross - huh? ) I would sometimes go for 3 - 4 days without one and especially around my periods.
I have had no side affects from the Avandia. I just can't afford to keep taking it. It's a really expensive drug. Best of luck to ya!

Thanks. Regularity would be a dream come true! I feel like a horse eating all this fiber, and then bloat up like a balloon. TMI i know, but MAN! I wonder if there is a copay amount for the Avandia or if insurance plans do not cover the tx for PCOS...hmmm. I will have to investigate.

I'm a big Avandia supporter. I got pg twice (yes, lost both babies). Once was after 8 clomid rounds, over a 5 year period. And the 2nd time was a shock, after being on Avandia for only 2 months. Basically, the 2nd pg happened after my first post-pg period. I had my period 3 months after pg, must have O'd that next cycle, and walla, pregnant.
So I think Avandia works wonders, and since the met/gluc was SO horrible with my stomach, Avandia was just great with the no stomach problems!
