Default Should i low carb???

I have been taking 500mg of met and 100 mg of Clomid for 2 cycles now-i am waiting for this one to end...and i am trying to decide if i want to go up to 1000mg of met or if that will just make me too sick. i tried it for a little while last cycle and almost passed out after half a Dr Pepper...i havent really had many tests to see if i am IR my fasting glucose blood test came back normal though, but i have never done the glucose tolerance test.
Also i know that the recommendation is that while on Met you should be on a low carb diet, but i am so worried about losing weight, and being on only 500mg doesnt give that many side effects so i eat what i want, but i am worried this reduces the effectiveness of it, but i know losing weight only makes ovulation harder.

If anyone has an advice it would be very much appriciated, my DR doesnt really know much about met he didnt even know that carbs can affect it so i dont really know who to ask about these things.

I did ovulate when taking clomid and only 500mg of met both cycles my o has been late though day 21 but i guess that it happened at all was a miracle..
i really want a baby and am willing to do anything but just dont know where to start..

Thank you

Wendy

oh and i weigh 103lb and i am 5'5 so i cant afford to lose anymore weight!

I think I'd stick with a healthey, balanced diet. I would be mindful of balance and nutrition , especially prenantal vits., when trying to get pregnant. Thin cysters have less success using diet to affect hormones since weight is not the main cause of our hormone imbalance. However, I have read that high carb. diets can affect side affects of metformin so if you are getting sick you may need to adjust then. Good luck and stick with it! You'll hold that baby someday!!!

I agree that a healthy diet is best regardless of whether you are taking Met. You want your body to be ready nutrient wise when you carry your baby.

I do not diet on Met. I do semi low-carb and my weight stays within a comfortable range. With Met, high fat foods give me loose bowels, so I have learned to forgo them. I don't miss them, and feel better without them anyway. The biggest change was cutting potatos out of our diet. I never realized how much of them we ate. I'm talking everyday! Hashbrowns for breakfast, mashed potatos for lunch, french fries (baked) for dinner, etc. It was crazy. Just by getting rid of them except for special occasions, it has really helped. Also we went from regular soda to diet soda to flavored water. It was a long process. I was addicted.

Just some ideas for you.

Don't give up hope!

yeah, i know what you mean...i'm in LOVE with potatoes, but i'm fairly sure i do have some semblance of insulin resistance, because cutting almost all the sugar from my diet has helped me a bit. And i noticed the other day, when i DID have some mashed potatoes, i had cramps later (although i think they were abdominal, not uterine cramps). So it just depends on how much sugar you're eating, and whether or not you think low-carbing will help you.

I do a moderate carb diet more like the IR diet than anything. I am not on MET.

But, this diet, along with accupuncture and herbs got me ovulating again.

I would like to point out that this new way of eating has not caused me to lose weight. Usually my weight varies according to how much I exercise and at what intensity. I do feel the difference in my pant size, but since I was getting thicker arond the middle, I was happy about this side effect.

HTH,
Oshrat

Hi Oshrat,

Congrats on using diet, exercise, and alternatives to control your symptoms and postively alter your figure! I would love to hear more about how herbs and accupuncture restored your ovulation. Actually, my insurance provides better coverage for "alternative remedies" (including accupuncture) than infertility. So, accupuncture may be a logical next step for me in my TTC journey.

You mentioned you aren't on Met, but are you IR?

Any thoughts you want to share most appreciated!

TIA
Lissa
