Default should i be on metformin?

I am wondering about metformin and if I should/need to be on it. I know it is frequently prescribed for PCOS but I would like to know more about why. I know some women take it when they are TTC. I am not. I just had a fasting glucose done and it was 91 and my dr said it was fine since it was under 100. I know it is also prescribed for insulin resistance which no one has told me that I am. What would warrant me going on this medication?

Default Insulin Resistant

You'd have your insulin tested, my levels "were" 30. doctor put me on 1500MG per day. You'll just need to talk with your doctor about it, and hope they know some about pcos and IR. Some women with PCOS don't need the metformin, because some aren't IR as well.
Just talk with your doctor, or find a doctor who knows / specializes in PCOS/IR and talk with them.

Recently I've been wondering if I should be on Met as well. I am not IR, but the Endo put me on Met. While it helped my bloodwork look good, it has done nothing else for me physically, and I've been on it over 2 years now.

I don't feel any better, my cycles are not more regular, it hasn't helped me lose weight even when watching my food and exercise... I hate to just go off of it and risk things getting worse, but they haven't really gotten better.

When I bring it up to the doc she dismisses me with 'go for a walk once in a while'. I am overweight, but not that much. I would love to drop some of it, and I feel better when I do, but the 'hop on a treadmill and eat a salad' thing seems like a copout.

my insulin levels tested well enough to not need metformin but i'm glad insisted on it anyway. my appetite is half what it was six weeks ago and i have no sugar cravings. love the stuff . i suppose it does different things for different people though - i'd be totally excited if it made a dent in my hair problem.
