Default Should I start Met again?

I was diagnosed with PCOS in April 2006. My general doc put me on 500 mg of met but was hesitant to put me on the bcp because I had an abnormal pap test. I went to one gyno who put me on orthotricyclene and said my general doctor was an idiot for giving me met because my insulin was ok and im not trying to have a baby yet. He was very unprofessional so I found a new gyno who switched me to Yasmine and said that it is my choice if I would like to stay on Met or not but it isn't necessary because I'm on bcp. I took it for almost 2 months and stopped because the severe nausea and diarrea wouldn't go away. I'm considering going back on because I did lose 25 lbs while dieting and on met. I fell off the diet wagon for a few months and I'm back on now for a few weeks I've only lost 4 lbs so far and it is getting very frustrating. Does met still serve a purpose if insulin is ok and bcps are working?

Your gyno sounds like a jerk..I'm glad you changed Docs.

If you're committed to the dietary part, Met can be really effective, but I found it was very limited in how it could help me hormonally when I was lax on the diet. Plus it helps with the nausea/runs if you can eat cleanly....my side effects literally disappeared overnight when i got committed to diet.

So if you feel like you can stick to the plan, you'll probably have better success with it.

Hope it helps!

My fiance Steve passed away on 2-9-07 and my life and heart will forever be tortured. However I have been able to accept his death a little and I have moved forward in my life. He would want me to be happy. I am now with Rob and TTC.

Hey girls! Thanks for the info. The first time on Met I was very strict with my diet. I was on phase 1 of the South Beach Diet and followed it religiously and still had stomach problems so bad that it made it hard to even go to work. I think I might stick it out with just the diet and exercise a little while longer. I may have just hit a little plateau because of stress. I just started a new job, family problems, etc.

Christyz: Yes that gyno was a jerk!! He made me feel as if PCOS was my own fault, like I did it to myself. He also pushed the bcp like everyone who isnt married needs to be on it because "if you get pregnant, its your own fault, you aren't married and your fiance could always leave after he gets you pregant and you'll be stuck not married and with a kid, condoms break you know." I really wanted to kick him while he was examining me. I took the classier route. I asked him to please stop the examination and I would be seeking advice from a more professional gyno. He asked why and i responded with "I thought I walked into a doctors office not a church, I guess I was wrong. Thank you for your time"

I'm very happy you switched your doc, but I have to admit your post made me laugh. I don't think I could have done what you did. I just don't really have enough balls to say things like that.

Lol yeah my mouth can be a loose canon sometimes, but that man deserved it. I was already scared and confused about what was going on with my body and that jerk decides to kick me while I was down. So it was either hit him with my sarcasm or kick him in the head lol. I didn't like him from the moment I walked in. He was a very fast talking full of himself Tony Soprano wannabe. I should have pummeled his butt when I was leaving. With is crappy attitude, I'm sure the only reason he wanted to be a gyno is because he knew it was the only way to get anywhere near female parts. lol sorry I had to let that out
