Exclamation Should I take this?

Hey all,

My gynae is putting me on Dianette, which I believe some of you know by the name of Diane 35 also.

I'm just really scared about the risks, as I smoke, but am trying to quit, My weight isn't good with pcos my doctor even says it's not to do with how much I eat it's probably what I eat so with pcos makes it worse, so am trying low carbs and am going on metformin SR so it's easier on me than the last time I was on it.

Now my mum has been in hospital twice in the last few days cos theres something up with her heart but they won't even say what they're looking for just sent her home and sent her letters about appts to come in and get a scan and a 24hr kinda ECG.

So with the smoking, my weight, and my mum's heart issues. Am I safe to go on this pill?

I'm going to be quite active at Uni, walking a lot, joining the student gym, etc etc.
Plus I use an exercise DVD a bit and do Yoga as much as I can.

I don't eat processed stuff and I try to be very careful with what I do eat, I only have what my body doesn't try to reject.

But other than this pill and met, how am I going to get a period? I haven't seen AF properly since August 2007. I had a small bleed in April this year and slight spotting in June.

Is it really safe for me to take Dianette?

Any response would be appreciated.

No one can say for sure. The general answer is yes, but you NEED to stop smoking.

Roomie had a stroke in Jan---turned out to be totally unrelated to her birth control + smoking (she has a clotting disorder). But before they figured that out, we heard ALL the horror stories from the nurses about how "WAY more girls turn up with DVTs and stroke in the ER than ever gets reported, you just CAN'T smoke and be on BCPs".

Obviously, lots of gals do and they're fine, too. But it sounds like you REALLY shouldn't be one of 'em. Can you get any help w/ trying to quit??

Of course the game is rigged. Don't let that stop you--if you don't play, you can't win.

No I wouldn't take it if I were you. I didn't really have any "risks" so to speak but it made me feel so ill and I had to stop after a few months. Not very helpful. Plus it isn't a long-term pill, too much DVT risk etc...

Try asking for another pill, some docotrs don't take everything into account and just prescribe...

Hope you find something good! xx
