Default Should I be thinking menopause??

I missed my period last month for the first time in years. Metformin has kept my periods regular for many years now.

Last month and no period. I started my period last night and the pain is bad. My friend who also has pcos says it is probably menopause. I don't want it to be menopause I am only 43.

Before starting medication 20 years ago I would go as much as 10 months without a cycle and then end up in the er for pain when one would start. I took birthcontrol pills for 11 years and switched to metformin after that. Could the metformin not be working? I am taking 2000mg a day of metformin for pcos and diabetes.

My mom went through menopause starting around age 41. I suspect that she had PCOS even though she was never diagnosed, but I think also that I read somewhere that women with PCOS are more likely to go through menopause at an eariler age than women without PCOS.

I'm only 25 so I don't know the answer. And while menopause is a sign of growing older, it also means no more periods, which sound like they have been/are very painful for you. Maybe it's a positive thing you can focus on?

I hope you find an answer.

Its probably not menopause. Ask the women in your family when they went threw it. As for PCOS women and going threw it earlier; that is the first I have heard or read of that.
I think it just PCOS. Their is no "cure" just masks for it; so anything is possible.

Met was keeping me from having extended AF's but some silly Dr insisted I stop taking it and within a few days I started spotting. Now I have had a full bleed for 2 weeks with no sign of slowing down, even after I re-started met last week. I was so hoping met would do its thing again for me also. Not sure if it can loose its effectiveness on PCOS or not, going to be asking alot of questions when I go see the Dr who originally put me on met on the 9th.
Hope things get straightened up for you! Please keep us posted
