Default Should PCOS receive more media attention?

What do you think.

I believe there def needs to be more Awareness/Attention. More and more women and young girls are diagnosed each day and I think if if there were more awareness it would help a great deal.

I think that there definately needs to be more awareness. I was diagnosed 3 years ago and if I would have known what PCOS was earlier on I know I would have got a diagnosis earlier. PCOS awareness is so important to me and I try to help women understand what PCOS is. When I am talking to people and PCOS comes up people always ask what it is. So many women right now are going through what we are going through but just haven't heard of PCOS.

Thumbs up

I most definately think it needs more attention. I think there are alot more girls out there who do not know what is going on with their bodies. I heard Oprah Winfrey talk about it years ago and it took me this long to go to the doctor and actually get diagnosed with it. It is a very scary condition to have especially when couples decide that they want to start trying to have children.

Yes, Yes, and Yes.... I think every little detail should be should be out there.. and any new treatments should be broadcast to allow us to get the info. Most of the information I get if from this web site... I have learned more here than from the doctors and even taken some bits and pieces that I have learned and asked my drs about..

I agree. I cant believe there isnt more attention of this condition, especially in light of the fact that such a large number of women have it.

I never even heard of PCOS until I got diagnosed. Had I known about it, I would have done things A LOT differently before TTC and I wouldnt have waited as long as I did to start working on my TTC health and TTC in general.

It almost feels like we are robbed of some years when we do find out we have this condition and only then we can start learning about it and learning about our options. And you are so right that I have had to be very involved in my treatment options becuase every doctor has different ideas and knowledge and I think some of them just waste our time because they arent knowledgeable enough and dont send us immediately to someone who is.

YES!

I grew up thinking this was a curse only limited to me! I didnt know what it could be until I was about 21 and I still didnt seek the right medical attention then because I thought I would be blamed, or my claims would be dismissed.

Thanks to Kat for this site and all of the wonderful cystahs who come here to share their issues and combatting PCOS obstacles!

It truly amazes me how little information about PCOS is out there. (Although it is somewhat better from when I was first diagnosed). I have already changed doctors four times in the past five years due to my PCOS not being understood nor taken seriously.

So yes, I definitely believe PCOS should receive more media attention. Also, I wish more doctors would understand that PCOS symptoms are not due to a person being lazy or compulsive with food, etc. I pray that more research will be done in the near future to help all of us who suffer with PCOS.
