A lot of what was written is incredibly helpful, I'm sure, but it seems like a lot of technical and medical jargon. I feel like it's way over my head!

Thank you very much for posting this article. I am currently on DHEA as prescribed by my holistic doctor as he was the one who originally diagnosed and I have discovered it to be beneficial in mood regulation a bit.
Hi, sorry for asking but what are the numbers next to the herbs?
such as Glycyrrhiza glabra 1:1
or
Paeonia lactiflora 1:2
sorry if I sound stupid :$
I just wanted to post to let everyone know how i have been handling my PCOS, and so far so good!!! My symptom of PCOS is acne, it was uncomfortable and knocks self esteem! I was seeing a fertility specialist through my school, and he told me I should be on the pill and then when I am ready to get pregnant I will get off the pill then immediately get on Clomid. I was very disturbed by this, I asked if I should naturally first, and he said no need, and just to get on the drugs. This was not me, I try to do things more naturally, and was not going to settle for chemicals upon chemicals until I had no other choices. Instead I saw a homeopathic doctor, and started doing acupuncture once a week for one month, and then once a month. My homeopathic doctor prescribed me a few day treatments of homeopathics to cleanse the liver and help with controlling my hormones. I then started taking vitex (2 x a day) and red raspberry (2 x day) along with a multi vitamin. I did this for 2 months while I was still taking the pill, before I stopped taking the pill altogether, I did this for an easy transition. I have now been off he pill for almost 2 months, and I have not been suffering from acne at all! I have only had 1 or 2 small spots, and they have gone away in a day or so....which never happened before. I started my period after the month of being off the pill, I was just a week late. My second period should be starting in a week....so I am keeping my fingers crossed that all these natural remedies are helping.

Would love to be on a herbal regimen rather than taking birth control to just "hide" the real issues. I am in NY and have no idea where to even begin looking. I am also looking for a new doctor since mine have only said to stay on birth control![]()
My friend also has PCOS and is a dietician/naturopath. She has studied natural remedies for a while and figured out what to do to get her body to "behave" (and be fertile).
Basically she goes low-carb (like under 40 g/day) and is sure she takes a variety of specific supplements to deal with the hormonal imbalances and deficiencies. I've been following her protocol for about a year (but am really bad at the low carb angle). I also take Metformin to help with my blood sugar issues, but found my cycles do a lot better when I can get rid of sugar and grains and eat more protein.
Her website is http://www.puresante.com. She just had a baby so I don't know how quickly she can answer inquiries. But you can also look at her general vitamin regimen she posts online. (I have my husband following her general stuff plus some things we found on fertilichat.com's male infertility board. His count has gone from 1 million to 40 million in less than a year!)
For the acne, I've had a lot of success with using some products from Derma E, which I buy on iHerb.com.
I REALLY like their microdermabrasion, along with the scar gel. The "Very Clear" line is nice (cleanser and lotion). My skin started clearing up right away, especially with the microdermabrasion...finally getting rid of some redness that just wouldn't leave and softening the skin a lot. I haven't been able to use it for about a week due to traveling and have started breaking out again. So I really feel like it makes a difference. You can use this code to get $5 off your first order at iHerb: AKE481. (I paid about $50 for what I needed and it'll last a few months.)
Then the adult Clearasil acne treatment has been working really well at quickly shrinking the acne...I just wish it wasn't tinted!
Hope that helps someone!

Oh yea I find it hard to cut down on carbs in general but I make sure I eat whole grain instead. PCOS is super frustrating! And yes birth control does help but it doesn't get to the root of the issue unfortunately. Thanks for the link I will check out that webpage![]()
