Default Names that can be shortened to Abby?

DH likes the name Abby, and I think it's cute... but I absolutely do not like the name Abigail (or any spelling variation thereof) because of a number of bad personal associations with that name. Are there any other names that can be reasonably shortened to Abby?

I think variations of Abigail are most likely to be shortened to Abby, but maybe you could call her Gabrielle and shorten to Abby rather than Gabby?

Hmm, looking in my baby name book -

    There are:

Abbellonna (Hebrew) Exhalation of breath; variation of Abel
    Abeni (African) Prayed for
    Abey (Native American) Leaf
    Abie (Hebrew) Mother of many
    Abriana (Italian) Mother of nations
Abiona (Yoruban) Born on a journey

I hope someone has some good ideas! Good luck finding an alternative.

Yup that was going to be my suggestion. I have a cousin who is just plain "Abby."

    Another alternative might be Aubrey.

    That's a nice idea.

Tabitha could probably be shortened to Abby.

I would vote for naming her Abby as well......we named our chihuahua Abigail as it apparently means daddy's girl in Spanish....and dh picked her out.

Naming her just Abby is out... we both want her to have a name that's not considered "nick-namish"....I love the idea of naming her Gabriella and calling her Abby since Gabriella is on my list!
