    Default NutriSystem and Breastfeeding

have any of you ladies tried nutrisystem? did it work for you?

also they dont even want you to do it if you are still breastfeeding. im slowly weaning dd who is 9 months old. we have started with 1 bottle a day right now of formula, going to 2.

anyways...has anyone done it. the low milk im not as worried about as much as the toxins being released into my milk.

OK, I'm prepared for flamin', but I would not do that diet while breastfeeding at all, or any diet not recommended by a doctor while breastfeeding... My GP recommended Weight Watchers because it allowed for additional calories, calcium and other nutrients while nursing. I wouldn't do anything where you are nervous about "toxins" being given to your baby. My advice, go to your GP and ask what a recommended diet plan is. You need to have specific nutrients while BF-ing and diets like Nutrisystem, Jenny Craig are not specifically designed for BF-ing moms. If you want to go on Nutrisystem, wait until your infant is completely weaned.

well i got the toxins part from reading that when you diet and you lose weight too rapidly it releases toxins from the fat that may end up in your milk. but that is for any dieting that is too fast. it says 1-2 lbs a week is ok

I still wouldn't do any diet without first consulting with a doctor or until you have entirely weaned your DD. The diet doesn't account for increased caloric intake necessary for providing milk. You are much better off completely weaning her and then dieting.

Piscesmomma97 is correct. You should not go on a commercial diet program while breastfeeding.

If are dead set on going on a diet, talk to your doctor and them work out a plan for you.

(Pisces, why would anyone flame over that advice?)

Last time I recommended against Nutrisystem-- a user blasted me. I didn't want to offend anyone.

My mom had a very very bad experience with Nutrisystem, it was in the mid 1980s, and the company has since changed ownership, and hopefully it's different type of food. I am also very wary of any diet that has you buy pre-packaged food-- just my preference really. I would say if you would like to invest the money and try it, there are people who have had success with it. I just didn't want you to diet while breastfeeding without consulting a doctor.

It is. Nothing is the same, except the name.
