Default How long does it take to build up Iron levels?

I started my iron supplement last Friday night (told to take at night) and have been trying to eat at least 1 red meat meal a day (roast beef sandwich, hamburger...) and fortify with other foods as well. How long will it take for teh levels in my blood to register normally?

It depends on your body's ability to absorb the Iron that you are taking. I'd suggest taking the iron and eating your fortified meals with some kind of vitamin C.

When my Iron is low I know it takes me a good three of four days to feel better. I'd guess it would take a week or more for your levels to rise...again it depends on your body...

grr.... My iron level was 8.6 last Friday afternoon...

I started teh supplement they gave me which has folic acid and vitamin-c in it as well. i take it at night and again, eat as much iron-rich stuff I can.

I need ot have it above 11 by Friday afternoon and it certainly has to maintain that until Monday (I cant be induced if my iron is too low).

    Is that possible?

Can anythign I do be decreasing my iron levels that I dont know about?

I've had chronicly low iron for a really long time. It takes a long time for your body to absorb the iron in the supplements so your levels will only rise by about 4-6 each month.
In the end my iron got so low i needed an iron infusion which got my iron up from 3 to 113 in one day!! (but i did have a huge allergic reaction to the infusion so i can never have another one)
