    Thumbs up Vaniqa in Canada...

Some of you may be aware that Vaniqa is available in Canada. However, I was not aware of it before today.
I remember going to my family physician 15 years ago with a ripped out magazine advertisement requesting the cream however it was not available.
All subsequent visits to other doctors over the years also resulted in me leaving my doctor's office discouraged and emptied handed.
So for all of you that have been living in the dark like me, I just wanted to update you that Vaniqa is now available here north of our American neighbours who have had this hair solution for over a decade.

Any idea how well/if it works? And how much it costs? I know our benefits won't cover it, since it's for "cosmetic" purposes.

I dropped off my prescription yesterday and was warned ahead of time that Vaniqa will be in the $100 range here at the Shoppers in Kelowna.

It's a cream that is supposed to suppress hair growth on the face.

$100?! Yikes. How much do you get for that? A toothpaste tube? Less?

    qtpage,
if you check out my original post the word Vaniqa is under lined. If you click on the work/link, it will bring you directly to the vaniqa website for more info.

    Ajani,
I have no clue how much is in a tube but my doctor said she was prescribing the smaller tube incase things don't work out for me. It can cause skin irritation and I have skin issues. She also said she couldn't stress enough that I only apply a very thin coating to my face.
If Vaniqa doesn't work, we're going to try Flutamide but I hope it works as well as people say it does.

    Not sure.
I am under the impression that the change was recent.
The pharmacy didn't even originally realize it was disontinued so I can't blame the doctor for trying.
It's just my luck that when I stopped trying to obtain Vaniqa is when they finally released it in Canada & now that I could finally get it, it's no longer available.
Guess I'll be trying Flutamide instead.

I got one tube of Vaniqa about a year ago, haven't used it regularly tho so I still have almost a full tube left. I guess there's really no point in using it now tho

does anyone know when vaniqa will be available here in canada again? I was prescribed aldactone last week and really want to try vaniqa with it...
does anyone else here use aldactone? And if so how has it worked for you...
I'm only taking 25 mg which seems pretty low...I really want to get the whole 'hair' thing under control i'm starting to scar and get pot holes from plucking

I imagine never. They've discontinued it, so I doubt we'll see it here again. Kind of like the Outback Steakhouse in Ontario. *sigh*

I'm not sure which, if any other provinces have agreements but here in B.C. we can go south to washington state(only) and have any prescriptions filled that our written by B.C. registered doctors.
Way back when there was a drug shortage (including Synthroid) the province and state implemented this allowance to help patients get much needed meds.
The down side is many insurance companies will not pay for meds obtained this way in addition to many doctors are not aware of all the new released medications available south of the border and therefore not willing to write you a prescription.
