Post How many other women were diagnosed with PCOS "after" they had children?

    Hi,

I am new to this message board. I was diagnosed with PCOS after I had my 3 sons. All of a sudden my cycles became EXTREMELY irregular and facial hair increased. I was diagnosed with PCOS. I had an ultrasound and my ovaries had a lot of cysts on them. My testerone levels are also very high - over 100. I would like to have girl. No luck so far. My doctor prescribed aldactone to bring down my testerone levels, but I don't know how that is going to help me in my quest to conceive.

I've always wondered how many other women were diagnosed with PCOS after they had children.

I think I always knew something was up or my metabolism was very slow bc of how I had to eat and workout. I got pregnant and gained over 100lbs and after I could not lose it after having my son I was looking up things to try and figure out what was going on. I was dieting and working out and wasnt losing the weight. After figuring out I was sure it was PCOS it took many Drs to finally test me for it and when one did it came out I had it.

I always had a gut feeling something was off but put off going to an endo. Thought I didn't need to because I wasn't diabetic, even though I had hypothyroidism.

I found a good endo clinic in my area and just decided to go and they found a slew of health issues! Glad I went!

I have a 4-year-old daughter and a daughter that is going to be 2 on November 10th.

I was just diagnosed in August 08. I have one DD who was conceived without any problems (only took 4 months). I believe that is why it took so long to get a diagnosis. My OB thought I should not have any trouble getting pg again. So I wasted almost 3 years trying without help from a specialist. I kept being told that everything was fine, go on a vacation, etc. It was hard to believe the diagnosis. I thought for a while that my RE was wrong, but all test show he is right. I would love to find out why that happens. Anyone have any ideas?

Do you mean just the diagnosis or the actual onset of PCOS? My midwife diagnosed me when I finally got pregnant with my first baby - which took almost two years. All those years and I never knew. My weight gain and facial hair started in about 8th or 9th grade. The sideburns were a constant embarrasment and I gained 70 pounds between my freshman and senior years. Over a decade later and I finally got my reason for the cycle irregularities and all the other stuff that can come along with PCOS. Incidentally, I got my first PG a week and a half after doing Southbeach for a week. I attribute the conception to the resetting of my insulin sensitivity leading to ovulation. I never realized how AO I had been until I looked back through my temp charts. Unfortunately I haven't been able to do Southbeach since. Can't even get through two days though I know it would do me good.

I was always screwed up with my monthly cycles as a teen and had to watch closely or gain weight. However I was not diagnosed until my first child was 5.

My PCOS started after I already had DS#1, and I was Dx'd when I was TTC #2 without success.
I now have 3 boys, too, and I also really want a baby girl. I am going to start TTC again in Dec.

My sister also had 3 children before she started having symptoms of PCOS, and was having a hard time getting PG with #4. She was just recently Dx'd with metabolic syndrome, but wasn't Dx'd with PCOS simply because she wasn't tested for it. Her doc didn't think to test her for PCOS since she has 4 children.

I was diagnosed when my youngest child was 7, though I had the symptoms shortly after she was born, and the only reason someone finally did diagnose me was I spent a summer in agony due to all the cysts.

I knew something was wrong after having my second daughter and getting my tubes tied. Once I went off the pill it my periods were totally erratic, I would have one and then nothing for three months, then another and then nothing for seven months. I gained weight and could not lose it, chin hairs, mood swings, terrible periods when I did have them.

This was 13 years ago - my daughters are 13 and 16. I was finally diagnosed last month, LOL.
