Unhappy "Fat Pad" top of the back, bottom of the neck? Anyone have one?

I have this "fat pad" at the top of my back, bottom of my neck and apparently this is a PCOS symptom (I have had PCOS for 10 years but only diagnosed for almost 5 years).

I am just wondering if I am not the only one?

I have one and have had it since I was 10 and I am now 29. They can be hereditary, my Grandma also has one. Sometimes they are callled buffalo humps and are common in PCOS'ers. Mine was actually evaluated by a genetic specialist when I was a child and they determined it was a lipoma (fatty tissue deposit). I hate it! It takes up the back part of my neck.

I am so glad I am not alone, I seriously thought I was!! Yeah, I wanted to have it surgically removed and the gen. surgeon said no because it was a lipoma, same as you.

I hate having it and wasnt aware of it until I was 14 (the day I was diagnosed w/ PCOS) and ever since it has killed me to kow that it is there...I am very embarassed of it!

Thank you SOOO much for responding, I feel a little better knowing its not just me.

This can also be a symptom of Cushing's Disease. CD shares a lot of symptoms with PCOS in fact. Be sure to discuss it with your doctor.

I've got one. Its a combination of bad posture causing a little hump and a little fat pad making it worse. It gets better when I lose weight, but I never have that smooth flat plane from my back up my neck that I see on other women in swimwear/open back tops.

    Hate it.

Yeah I had an endocrinologist that tested for it and it wasnt, but they deffinetely thought it could have been. My PCP has said that its a PCOS caused fat pad.

    But thanks

I wanted to post and say you are so far from being alone. I have one and have had it for as long as I can remember. It truly sucks, makes me necklaces fit funny. But I have learned to deal with it.

wow i had no clue this had anything to do with PCOS. I was just blood tested today but have not been officially diagnosed. I have had one of these humps forever...i don't have that bad of posture though people think i do just because of this ridiculous hump on my neck...i feel like quasimoto...

I used to but weight loss, correcting postpartum posture, excerscise and metformin made it go away. It tookl a long time, though.
I still have the really dark velvety skin on the back of my neck, though.

I have one too. I'm overweight so that aggrivates it. I also have heavy breasts and terrible posture so I know that doesn't help. I just deal with it most days even though I hate it.

This hump is common in heavier people. Also called a "Dowager Hump". I have heavy boobs and bad posture, with PCOS. The combination of all three has given me a hump. I decided 5 yrs ago and got a really big tattoo there. My hump dont look so big now.

OMG, I have one!! I had no idea it could be PCOS related! The weird thing about mine is that it appeared after a bad episode of whiplash in a car wreck. That was like 6 years ago!!! I guess the trauma was enough to set it in motion to develop. I absolutely hate it but have hope now that I see others have been able to correct it. I def need to work on my posture, & I hope to get a breast reduction one day...maybe those will help along with losing weight.

I have one too! I've always been self conscious of it, but it was there when I was skinny and it's there now when I'm not so I've come to realize it's a part of me and so be it!

Yep I have them both (above the rear and at the neck). The neck lump has actually started to fade with my thyroid being treated-- I've had it since I was either for over 10 years and its going away-even with a big front (J cups anyone-- willing to share). The bottom lump sometimes is caused by sitting to often and usually plagues people with desk jobs-- mine showed up in my later teen years-- stupid PCOS.

ewww i've got one too! and i noticed at a family reunion a couple of weeks ago that all my great aunties have them too. I'm so going to take weight loss seriously now, hearing that it can help the bump go away, cos i dont want to look like them in forty odd years. so glad to hear how common it is, and was really interested to know it can be related to pcos.
