Default Menopur alone versus Gonal-f and Menopur ( Runner---please chime in!)

OK, I am meeting with my Re tomorrow...I have a beta scheduled at 13spo but today is 12 DPO- I tested negative...and I am going on the assumption I am not PG. Trying t not fall into despair...and plan for next round. This was a rest cycle that happened to have a surprise spontaneous O....

I have done just gonal f- got PG first try but miscarried. NExt round just gonal f- BFN. Next round gonal f with some menopur- responded well- BFN.

I am having issues with low estradiol- which I am wondering if it has to do with egg quality? I know E2 levels are sometimes lower in overweight women--but still....

My FSH is great, I am repsonding to injects, ( need higher dose due to weight)- but so far no luck.

I want to talk to them about doing ALL Menopur---and am trying to get some info on WHY this may be a good idea so I dont look like a dork when I suggest it.

    Thanks all!

Runner- I know you have insight into this!

Well - menopur alone is what finally worked for me.

I know the reason they don't typically go this route with PCOS is menopur (and repronex) are a 50/50 mix of LH/FSH. With PCOS, we already typically have too much LH. A lot of us, if we take the LH/FSH meds, we will develop lots of little follies that don't result in good big useful follies - something like that.

We typically need a big ol' dose of FSH to get us going in the right direction and counter our high LH.

So Gonal-F, Follistim, Bravelle - tend to be the drugs of choice.

I kept getting tons of big follies on Bravelle but no pregnancies - just one, a chemical. So we tried a mix cycle and I got preg with twins but lost it. So it was kind of like, well, nothing else has worked, adding some menopur seems to have helped a little, let's try all menopur.

I don't know what else to say. I know why menopur alone isn't usually used. I found the reasoning faulty in my case since my LH was normal when I began the injects. Maybe that is why the menopur worked for me, I don't know.

I didn't have problems with estradiol, though - everything looked great, on bravelle. I just wasn't getting pregnant. But - higher e2 does mean better eggs, I think, so if the menopur gave you better eggs, it should raise those e2 levels.

I would ask to try it.

I used a combo of follistim and when it wouldn't raise my E2 added menopur to the mix.

The doc didn't give me much of a reason to use a combo or just menopur...but I have some preferences personally.

Follistim (or gonal F) is a little bit cheaper to buy than the menopur. Also, a lot of people take follistim/gonal F but not so many take menopur. Thus, I was usually able to score some free samples from the nursing staff. They rarely had menopur.

Also, I believe the menopur comes in 75IU vials (at least that's how I purchased it). As you go up to a higher dose, you'll need to reconstitute multiple vials. So, it takes a little bit longer.

    Anyway, just my two cents...

Yeah, it comes in little powder vials that way. I think only in 75 units so if you need more you need to suck up the liquid, squirt into on vial, suck it up, squirt it into another vial, suck it up again, and shoot it up.

*Personally* I felt like the more mixing, the better. It just cried out to my mad scientist side as well as my anal retentive side that thinks if I do things perfectly, I will get perfect results. But it does also mean you have to waste some, if you are doing half a vial or whatever... you can't save it... alas.
