Default How long did your TB skin test stay red?

Good morning. When I went in for my initial pre-natal visit nearly 2 weeks ago, they performed a TB skin test. She said there may be some itching and the site would become red but should be gone after a few days. That was on a Thursday.

When I went back in on Monday, it was still red but not bubbled and she said it was OK. She said the same thing that Thursday, a week after the test had been done. As a matter of fact, she had another lady come in, look and feel and they both said I might have just had a small allergic reaction.

In 2 days it will have been two weeks since the test was performed and the spot is still red and has a teeny, teeny bump under it. I'm not freaking out but am wondering if I should be concerned at all. It doesn't itch or burn unless I accidentally jab it like I did yesterday. lol

How long did the spot last on your arm?

    Thank you!

I have had to have lots of TB tests because of working in healthcare and the patch has never stayed pink for more than a few hours. Usually they check it back after 2-3 days and they are feeling for elevation of the area...which would indicate a positive result. I had a friend have a similar reaction once and they ordered her a chest x-ray also just to be on the safe side (she wasn't pregnant at that time though).

Was this your first ever tb test? I had never had a TB test until I started working at a hospital at 18. I had to do the initial 2 step test and the first one stayed red for almost 1.5 weeks but the second one and every one then after have been fine.

I just had the same thing happen. What may have happened is that instead of getting all of the fluid just under the skin they may have gotten some of it in the fatty tissue. I have had many TB tests and this was the first one that did that. I was very worried and asked the NP that I work with and she told me that it is normal. It did take almost 2 months for the spot to heal.

Thank you all so much for responding!

I talked to a friend of mine last night that's a Nurse Practitioner and she suggested the same thing that Heady did. Yay! My arm isn't going to fall off.

    Thanks again!

I'm in the healthcare field as well and get frequent TB tests. I would say it hasn't stayed red more than 5 days or so. You must be having some reaction to it. I would try applying ice to it and possibly a Benadryl cream to help it go down. Good luck!
