Unhappy 6w2d u/s no fetal pole - advice?

    Hi ladies:

I went yesterday for my first u/s fully expecting to hear the hb. When I got there, there was a yolk sac, but no fetal pole. The doc said there appeared to be one starting to form, but hadn't formed yet. And 50% of the time in the 6th week you can't see the hb, so I still have some hope.

But after having one mc I am reluctant to hold out much hope. Has anyone experienced a similar situation? Does anyone have any advice for me -- good or bad?

I'm kinda freaking out here and have to wait 6 more days for a follow up us

Could be later implantation and you aren't as far along as you thought you were. Keep your chin up and as long as you have rising beta's you should be ok. I thought I was 6 weeks along with this pregnancy and my u/s didn't have a fetal pole either, 2 weeks later it was there with a HB.

My doctor is adamant about the dates (though I think it might be off a day or two). I think I'm 6w2d (yesterday at us) the us said 6w4d. I think I might have been a late O, but that's to be determined.

One more thing - he didn't do another beta check either -- only when I first had a BFP and 2 days later to make sure I was doubling.

Just more of the waiting game....

    Thanks for your response.

Don't stress it's still early. My doctor doesn't do betas at all, she's a regular ob/gyn. When I went in for my first visit around 6 weeks I didn't see anything. She said she did though. When I went back at 7w5d there was a little heart flickering away and it was very fast and strong. I wouldn't worry, just relax and put your feet up. Sometimes they just take their sweet time to get going. My little bean bloomed late and now I generally measure ahead a few days. Good luck, just stay positive! H&H 9 months!

I think you will be fine. One thing that I have learned is that early u/s just make you CRAZY. Try not to think about it. Right now just remember that you have a pg that is in your uterus and is developing and measuring on time. If you read some of the books on early Pg it will tell you that the babies heart is only a few cells right now. so you can imagine that the entire baby is not much more then 100 or so cells at this point.

Thanks for all the support ladies. I'm trying to stay positive, but I don't want to be devastated if the outcome isn't good.

I will do my best and I appreciate the positive thoughts.

I know how hard it is but try to relax and keep those thoughts positive. I've been where you are and the wait for the next u/s is torture! My 1st u/s with dd was with my RE at 6w2d and it was close to what you saw-yolk sac that looked empty. We had done clomid/HCG/IUI that cycle so the dates were pretty exact. I had 2 m/c before that so of course was feeling so discouraged. I went back for a repeat u/s one VERY LONG week later and there was my dd's hb fluttering away. I HATE early u/s-they so often lead to horrible needless anxiety. Sending your way hoping you get to see that little flickering hb next week!!!

    Thanks ladies.

I've done hours of research on this and some people say they don't see anything until 8 weeks. Now, I don't know if they went back at 7 and still nothing or if they went from 6 to 8 weeks, with no visit at 7 weeks.

So, what if I don't see anything next week. Do I take my doctors word that 100% of viable pregnancies see something at 7 weeks, or do I ask for one more week? Then am I holding on to something that isn't there?

Ask for one more week. My SIL was told there was no hope. She was sent for a D&C, but they did one more u/s. There was my little nephew, who is just fine and will be 13 this summer IIRC. No, not all stories end like this, but some do. If you feel you need one more u/s ask for it.
