    Default Progesterone/Estrogen post IUI

Hi...I just had my first IUI last week. I went in for blood work this morning to check my progesterone and estrogen levels. Why are they checking these? Also has anyone been put on hormone supplements s/p IUI? Was the IUI successful? Thanks!

I'm not sure about the technicalities behind the estrogen levels but here's the skinny on the progesterone...

You progesterone level (P4) at 7DPO (or 7 DPIUI) is the best indication of whether or not you ACTUALLY ovulated. Even with a trigger shot, there isn't a 100% guarantee you ovulated but when the egg is released, ideally, there is a good amount of progesterone released with it that SHOULD be enough to ensure implantation IF the egg was successfully fertilized.

If your P4 level isn't where your doctor would like for it to be (at least 10 for a natural cycle, at least 15 on a medicated cycle) there is still time to supplement it before implantation. Your RE can do this with suppositories or injections. Generally they won't use oral medications or cream because by the time the body metabolizes it, very little gets to where you really need it.

I have to start progesterone injections the 36 hours after my IUI because my body doesn't produce progesterone at all. But generally, if your P4 is a little low, a suppository a few times a day is going to take care of it.

Good luck and hope that helps!

I'm doing the same thing. My IUI was last monday and this morning i did blood work for my progesterone levels. They called and said that it was a 10 and i'm 7dpo. I'm on femara and i really thought that i had to be atleast 15 but they said as long as i was over 5ml then i was fine and ovulation had accured. I just hope that my progesterone is sufficient enough to able a plantation. I'm so worried about this blood work results but they said i was fine. I'm been trying for two years now and seeing a specialist for six months just want to be pregnant already.
