What is the best dose for Myo-Inositol?
The studies seem to be based on 2,000 mg or 4,000 mg. While there was one study on 200 mg, I recomend the 2 or 4,ooo mg dose for extra insurance that you will get all the benefits of Myo-I. Starting with 1,000 mg and gradually working your way up to the dose you choose is a good way to do it.

If your BMI is above 37, you will probably need higher doses than 4,000 mg.

    Where can I purchase Myo-Inositol?
Myo-Inositol is the fancy name for regular old Inositol supplements, which can be purchased usually at health food and supplement stores, along with online stores. My favorite right now is iherb.com, but Vitacost.com, and luckyvitamin.com are also great
It is available in powder or capsule form. I take powder form, and just swallow water on top. It is not hard to take, it is a sweet powder! Much easier than swallow tons of pills, and cheaper too.

Should I take both Myo-Inositol and D-chiro Inositol or just one of them?
That is your personal choice, of course. They both have similar results in the studies, and they are both from the inositol family. However I think taking both of them could give you the best results? Myo-Inositol has been proven to help with Wieght loss, and D-chiro Inositol helps with Waist-to-hip ratio. So they both have their special things they do. They both help with Ovulation, lowering testosterone, ect. Myo-Inositol has helped my skin, and is proven to help ance and hair growth.
Alot of poeple are just taking D-chiro Inositol with good results, but a few of us take both Myo-I and DCI. Reading the clinical studies might help you make a decision also.
For myself, I take both D-chiro Inositol and Myo-Inositol. I had been on DCI for a few months, and added in the Myo-Inositol recently and I found additional benefits adding Myo-Insoitol to my regime!

    How do I take Myo-Inositol?
It is recomended to spread your Myo-I into at least 2 doses, and 3 if possible. Take it 45 minutes to 1 hour before eating on an empty stomach Inositol is water soulable, so drink it with water. I just place the sweet powder on my tounge sometimes, and drink down a nice amount of water. The Myo-I just melts in my mouth! As with DCI, Caffiene Kills MYo- Inositol, and also depletes your Inositol stores in your body.

    *Lowers androgen levels
    *Lowers cholesterol
    *Lowers Testosterone
    *Improves Waist to Hip Ratio
*Helps lower Insulin Resistance comparable to Metformin (you must take enough, though. I recomend 20 mg of DCI for each Kg of body wieght)

Where Can I purchase D-chiro Inositol?

There are currently about 4 places to get DCI. Keep in mind that if you purchase from iherb.com or d-chiro-inositol.com, you will have to order 2 bottles or more of DCI because the pills are only 300 mg each, so you will have to take twice as much. Chiralbalance are 600 mg each pills

    http://www.chiralbalance.com/store/index
    http://d-chiro-inositol.com/
    http://www.iherb.com/D-Chiro-Inosito...les/18276?at=0
    http://pcosinfo.wordpress.com/

The pcosinfo site may be a good choice for those ordering from Australia?

What is a good dose of D-chiro inositol?
The Chiralbalance site recomends 10-20 mg per kg of your bodywieght. From my personal experience, I think 20 mg per kg of bodywieght is the best
    A kg is 2.2 lbs.

How Do I take D-chiro Inositol?
In the one of the original studies with DCI/PCOS they told the participants to take 1200 mg on an empty stomach in the morning with water, then wait one hour before eating anything. Scince then, Cysters have found it is helpful to spread the dose throughout the daytaking DCI at least Twice a day, maybe even three times per day. DCI needs to be taken on an empty stomach, 45 minutes-1 hour before your meals Also taking it before exercise is a good idea too. The main thing is that for it to absorb into your body right, it needs to be on an empty stomach. It is also important that DCI be taken with Water, because Inositol is water soulable
Caffiene kills Inositol in your body. I try to steer clear of caffiene and drink only de-caff most of the time.

I am on my first cycle of DCI. I believe because of DCI my temps were nice and steady (they've dropped a bit now, I'm HOPING its ovulation coming soon or already here!). I also believe it has helped with my cravings (I still crave sweets, but not as much anymore). I have seen a bit of increase in some CM (the other day I had a lot, don't believe it was EWCM though).

I have read that Choline helps Inositol to absorb, but, I have read that too much Choline can be bad for you.

Some Cysters do use Choline With Inositol, I choose to just use plain Inositol (Source Naturals). Plain Inositol combined with Folic Acid was used in two of the Studies on Inositol and PCOS.

    Default Pregnancy and inositol

    Hey everyone!

Just wondering if anyone knows about the use of inositol during AND after pregnancy. Are there any specific protocols that anyone knows of. The studies that I have looked that utilize inositol for treatment of PCOS have claimed to have had spontaneous pregnancies within the duration of the study, but I am wondering if anyone knows if its something that one must take throughout pregnancy to help sustain it, and even afterwards, during breastfeeding, etc.

Again, I'm just curious to what people have been told, or what their experiences have been about inositol and how long one needs to take it.

    Thanks!

I wanted to post this on the research forum but was not permitted. It seems researchers at UT Southwestern Medical School have stumbled upon a brain-hormone link that points right at PCOS.
Look for the article titled UT Southwestern scientists unravel brain-hormone circuit that helps police diabetes, female fertility on their website.
Reading that has me wondering how do you go about increasing the receptors that are in short supply for those of us with pcos?

^thanks for the info Texas, just wow! pm an mod and request they post the article, this is vital information.. I recall ready about leptin and body types, women with higher amounts of leptin have pear shaped bodies from what I read, body fat distributes on bottom half.

there is a thing as leptin diet, leptin supplements? I wonder if that would help.

If you were scheduled to do some testing to see if you had insulin resistance, would you hold off on taking these? I haven't been diagnosed with PCOS as of yet, but I ordered the products because I have high DHEA and Testosterone. I'm going to see a specialist in the next couple of months for PCOS and I'm wondering if you guys think I should wait to treat before I figure out the whole picture? I guess, I just worry that if it helps some of my symptoms I might not get an accurate diagnosis if I do indeed have PCOS?

Does that sound silly? Should I just go ahead?

In case you've not been on the site to order dci (not chiral balance) they have not only lowered their price to $24.77 a bottle, but if you choose their autoship, the price per bottle is less than $20 each.

the d-chiro site that herbsgirl has in her posts.
In regards to the article I posted about..well..I happen to work at UTSW Medical School, so I sent the dr in the article the one big question that was in my mind. Is there a way to encourage development of these receptors that we PCOS gals are in short supply of? I wondered for a while if I'd get a response, but found one waiting on me yesterday morning. He said, "Unfortunately, I am not aware of anyway of upregulating the receptor expression. We don't know for sure if this is really a model of PCOS, but I think it is. The field has suffered from a good animal model and maybe this is a step in the right direction."
Herbsgirl - what benefit is gained by taking DCI right before exercise that differs from other times? I debate on starting to take it then because of advice from a friend (via her daughter who is an exercise coach at a gym) to eat protein before and after exercise.

Just letting your ladies know, only one of the two bottles of D-Chiro that I ordered from iherb has come in so far. The other is on back order and was expected to be delivered by the 13th...but still isn't here.

I'll have to call on Monday and make sure it's still coming.
