    Default Vitex - What Brand?

Hello there, I'm looking to add Vitex to my supplement regimen and wondering what the best brand is. I've heard some people prefer a liquid form to pills. What are you all taking and what works best?

I'm currently taking a multi-vitamin, choline and inositol, I was using NPC, but it was so messy and I've heard Vitex works really well for a lot of people...

yes use puritans pride in the tincture form. its alchohal free. its not the best tasting but if you put it in juice its barely noticable. i hadnt ovulated in over two years and after taking it at 2ml (2 dropper fulls) a day for 3 weeks i think i just ovulated. no real nasty side effects either. good luck!!

another note is from research i've done, and i did about a year of research before i tried it, the tincture form is recorded to be more effective because it is more readily and easily absorbed into the body. and it is also more concentrated and usually better quality chasteberry than the stuff they put in pills. whatever works for you is what you should try. i needed something besides a pill because pill forms of herbs always make me horribly ill. plus half the pill isnt even the product it is the compound they use to hold the pill together. the tincture is the liquid berry and nothing else. and kay is totally correct on pricing. i think i spent 15-21 $$ for five bottles and the first bottle lasted me until today so about 21 days. i should note too that i also take 1000mg of met a day but didnt notice any changes really until i started the vitex.

I take the pills, I've never tried the tincture. I think it's Nature's Made brand, got it on drugstore.com.

So I got the tincture. The thing I was most worried about was the taste, I hate liquid medicines. but it tastes like bitter unsweetened tea when mixed with water, not horrid... I've been taking it now for a few days and haven't really noticed anything so far, no side effects either, so I'm going to stick with it and see what happens.
Question for you, sirrefarual - i just noticed last night that the bottle says refrigerate after opening, do you refrigerate yours?

I prefer tablets so I use Kira which is a very good brand. I take mine immediately on waking as my herbalist says this is the best time to take it.

There are many good brands of Vitex. Femaprin is great for a capsule, and Natures Way Vitex is also popular. Planetary Herbals Vitex tincture, Gaia herbs, Herb Pharm are all high quality companies for a liquid version.

I just started taking Puritans pride, vitex (4 capsules a day), on CD 10 and just started my first 28 day cycle!!! I wasnt really thinking that vitex would work this soon, but my shortest cycle was 35 days so having a 28 day cycle is making me amazingly happy!!! I just hope I will ovulate this next cycle!

    Hi Applegate88,
Thanks for your info regarding Vitex - that's great news! I'm thinking of starting Vitex since acupuncture/Chinese herbs have become quite expensive for me (they were working, though). I noticed that you are hypothyroid, too. Did you have any interactions with Vitex and Synthroid? I'm pretty sure I am hypo (HUGE family history of it) and have ALOT of the classic symptoms, but bloodwork always comes back "normal", including Hashimoto's anti-bodies . I've heard that many people can be "hypo", but still have normal blood work. I'm seeing my doctor this week and I'm going to ask her about Synthroid. But I'm just wondering about a possible interaction between Vitex and Synthroid. Have your thyroid levels/symptoms changed at all? Thanks and good luck! Happy AF to you!

Zugora, I have not noticed anuy interactions with the vitex and my levothyroxine, but then again I have only been taking vitex for about a month bt I have not noticed any physical sideaffects, I know that vitex does work with the pituitary gland as does synthroid, but I only have my labs done once every 3 to 6 months, but as far as I kno there r no side affects
