Default Knee, ankle, hip, and shoulder pain?

Ok, so I'm guessing that this isn't directly related to PCOS?
But I have been having a lot of knee, hip, and ankle pain, along with occasional shoulder pain. It isn't all of the time, and when it does come it seems to be a dull ache that begins later in the day and progresses as the night goes on. It doesn't render me unable to move, but is painful enough that I have difficulty sleeping. I use my heating pad and that helps, but only while applied.
I can't say that I can pinpoint exactly when this started happening to me, but I can say that it's been over 6 months.
Anyone else have this? I'm just wondering if I should go in.... ?
I have done a little bit of looking around, and what I have seen that seems to sound like it lines up a little bit would be either linked to hormonal imbalances or Rhumatoid Arthritis. Being PCOS is largely linked to hormonal imbalances I was wondering if anyone else has dealt with this?

Have you had your thyroid tested? Sometimes pg can throw it out of whack. I had the same pain you describe after I had my son and it went on for a year before I got pg again and had my TSH level. It turns out I have hypothyroidism. Now that I'm taking medicine (a low dose), almost all of my joint pain has gone away. Definitely worth talking to your Dr.

The question that come to mind immediately for me is, are you drinking enough water? My joints really bother me if I am even slightly dehydrated.
If you are drinking plenty, it's probably a good idea to talk to your dr about this. It does sound like something might be wrong.

You should prob get checked out by say a physio or someone. It sounds to me like something is going on in your lower limb (be it pain from a nerve or something else), when this happens you will stand different and your shoulder then hurts. Also another possiblity is a podiatrsit (I am almost one - graduate in 5 months!!! Podiatrists would look at your gait etc and see if maybe your walking funny, or changes activities recently).

As for arthritis, maybe? If you do think it is then you need to have blood tests done for inflammatory markers etc.

Rheumatoid arthritis is normally in both joints, so if one ankle hurts, the other will hurt. I would be a little surprised if it was osteo arthritis, but again I couldn't say for sure unless i saw you in person. But then again there are other things like weight, bone density etc that would also impact on joints aching and osteo occurring.

Not much help I know!! But the shoulder pain I bet is coming from standing funny, or is totally unrelated to the ankle, knee, hip pain.

P.s. I just noticed your 23 - that is VERY young to have joint pain. I would have your pain looked into if you can.

JaneenRice- No I haven't had my thyroid checked, that I know of. The last time that I had anything tested was after I gave birth five months ago, because I was extremely anemic at the time. I lost a lot of blood during the birth of my daughter.

ChelseyWol- Good to know. However I have a fairly good habit of drinking water. Unless I get stressed, and if it's bad enough... then I find I forget to eat and drink.

I haven't been in since my six week check up and I guess really hadn't thought about getting checked for the joint pain, because .... I don't know. I just didn't think about it until my mom finally told me to stop complaining and go in.

coolpinkgurl- Thanks for the input. Congrats on almost graduating by the way!!! I know I'm young to be dealing with it, and it sucks. As for the joint pain... it's sporatic. Not all of the time, mostly in the evenings. And it does come on both sides. Sometimes both ankles, sometimes both hip, knee and ankle joints, sometimes shoulders, and to think of it... sometimes wrists. Not always both together... I don't think that the pain is severe enough to make me walk funny. I know it does hinder me a little as the night goes on, but I'm usually not up and about too much then. The worst case scenario is it will cause me to lose sleep because of the aching. I am just hoping that it will not interefere with my long awaited upcoming vacation. We are camping up North. I have been wanting to go back for years... maybe I should take some anti inflamitory drugs with me.
I don't think that weight is an issue, being I'm about 5'4" and 130 pounds. Still not at my pre preganancy weight, but I am waiting until after vacation to go back onto the low carb diet.
I live in a very small area, so the specialists that you recommend aren't available without a referral, and I would end up driving at least 2-3 hours in order to see one. So I will have to go through my family practice Dr. Whom I trust. I believe that she is very thorough, and willing to admit if something is beyond her knowledge. I just get so paranoid that something is 'nothing' and that it's pointless spending the money to go in.
.... on another note... I have been having a lot of dizziness too. Do you think that could be related in any way? Or is that another random issue that I have to try to find the answer for? ugh

    Hey there!

I bet its frustrating, and it doesn't help that your not near too many specialists. But your Gp should be able to get the ball rolling with some simple blood tests like ESR, Rheumatoid Factor etc

I wold say it would be a good idea to take some anti-inflammatorys and some pain killers when camping just to be on the safe side (you don't have to take them - but you will kick yourself if you need them and can't get some easily!)

It sounds like you are a good weight etc. And if you have had a baby your running around after the little one so getting exercise.

Dizziness might just be related to having kiddies, running around and maybe not having a fully correct diet (I obviously don't know what you do or do not eat!) The problem with symtoms things can crop up that may or may not be related and you need to think about how they might relate. Or not relate. I think if the diziness is really bad when it happens note what you have eaten, how much you have drunk, how much sleep you have had and see if anything seems out of whack there.

See another thing could be if you just had a baby (I see she is 5 months old, cute!!! And I LOVE the picture) maybe, just maybe your ligaments loosened up more than normal, and thats causing the pain. Also labour can put your back out - that again could lead to hip, knee ankle pain. Also is your pain in your joints (ie are they stiff) or does it run down the side of your leg, front or back? A back problems seems most likley to me as your pain is in the afternoon when your back is more compressed - do take this all with a grain of salt though! Its all possible things, your GP is the best bet :o)

I guess what I am saying is don't stress, I would be super surprised if it was arthritis :o)
