Default How soon after starting metformin did you become pregnant?

How long did it take you to become pregnant on metformin?

    Was it just metformin alone?

    How long were you trying?

I would LOVE to hear your story, I am in need of encouragement!

    Thanks

I've been taking met for over a year now and still no BFP. My sister, on the other hand, found out she was pg a mere 6 weeks after starting met. That bfp is now a 14 month old baby girl.
    Good luck to you!

3 months but I attribute getting our BFP to the Femara getting me to O when Clomid did not.
    Amanda (32) & John (32)

After 3 years, our Femara Miracle was born on 5/31/11.
We are so incredibly grateful for our completely natural Christmas BFP, but
The Lord has better plans as we found two blighted ovums on 1/3/13 and m/c on 1/6/13.

I found a medical journal article a little while ago about ovulation indcution in women with PCOS... Here's part of it but I've included the link to the rest of it

"The evidence supports the use of clomiphene citrate over
metformin as first-line pharmacologic therapy following
lifestyle modification in women with PCOS. However,
there may be a role for the addition of metformin to CC in
    women who are clomiphene-resistant."

    http://www.sogc.org/guidelines/docum...G1005E_000.pdf

Basically, this compilation of research leads us to believe that Metformin alone is not necessarily the best first step as far as medication goes if the goal is to induce ovulation. It DOES however say that adding Metformin to Clomid may be beneficial.

I was on Metformin for over a year before starting Clomid (increased from 500mg to 2000mg). I did ovulate twice in that year - but was it from the Metformin or would my body have done that anyway?? I don't know. I know my regular endocrinologist had said that Metformin can sometimes restore some regularity in cycles but I don't think it worked for me. Even if it WAS the metformin that caused me to O those two times, the chances of us catching the egg when I only get two shots in a year were pretty slim. If really wanting a fair shot at getting pregnant is what you're going for, I would go straight to Clomid... but that's just my opinion.

I am not pregnant yet, but I've been on Met for 5 full months and O'd on my own for the first time last month. Last month I O'd on cd 26. This month it looks like it may be on cd 15. Met definitely has helped restore my cycles.

Hi. I'm new but I got pregnant within 4 weeks of taking just met. I now have a beautiful 14 month old son and just started taking met again today to try to conceive baby #2. I also have a milder case of pcos. I don't ovulate on my own and have very irregular and long cycles and met was amazing for me!

I tried Metformin for my youngest, and it took me 5 months to conceive. I was also successful with clomid in my previous pg, but wanted to try Metformin because of the reduced m/c rate, so I stayed on it for the first trimester as well.

How long did it take you to become pregnant on metformin? I was on it one full cycle with DS 500mg once a day and I got my BFP 38 days later

Was it just metformin alone? Yes, I was suppose to start clomid that cycle by DH grandmother passed and we had to rush out of town....

How long were you trying? 5 years

We are now TTC #2 and Metformin alone wasn't enough I have been on it 9 months and at 2000mg so RE added Femara and I am on Cycle #2 and it seems to be working! I have O the last two months!! Good Luck!!

How long did it take you to become pregnant on metformin?
I was on Metformin a couple of years and had no response. This most recent time I was on Met for 8 months (1000mg.-1500mg.) I had a hard time remembering to take that middle dose so ended up on 1000mg. most of the time.

Was it just metformin alone? No..I took Femara 10mg. cd3-7.

How long were you trying? I was not preventing for 7 years...we TTC on & off during this time!

I would LOVE to hear your story, I am in need of encouragement!
I think having PCOS and finding success is all about finding the right doctor and doing your own research. I had never heard of Femara and read so much encouraging news online about it. Clomid never worked for me...and I even did injects/IUI with multiple follicles and still had no success. The Femara is all I needed, just a larger dose than some. I added in baby asprin the month I got my bfp as well..not sure if that helped or not. My RE didn't really care for Femara, but I insisted he let me try it...boy am I glad I did. I do think the Metformin is very helpful in conjunction with treatments..and for some it works well on it's own. My sister also has PCOS and got pregnant the first time on 50mg. Clomid and naturally the 2nd time without being on any medication. You can and will be successful. I have a 17 month old to prove it! I'm now on Metformin 1000mg. getting ready to TTC #2..hoping to try just the Met for a while and see what happens! Good luck to you!
