    Question Uterine Polyp and D&C?!

Has anyone had a D&C for a polyp? I went yesterday and had a HSG which showed something in my Uterus. The doc told me will be doing a D&C to clean me out and this could be the reason for us not conceiving this last year. I'm just curious how the surgery went and was there worry of cancer?
    Thanks!

I also wanted to add that this is my second HSG. The first one was performed by my RE and he was "certain" it was left over from my period. Good thing my new OB didn't like that answer and re-ran the HSG. He feels the D&C is the way to go, to clean we all out and hopefully move forward with a sqeeky clean Uterus. Any thoughts?

I didn't have a D&C for a polyp, but I did have one removed while the RE was removing septate tissue. My surgery was pretty minor, I was in and out in about 4.5 hours. I didn't need much pain medication at all, and there was no concern about cancer. I'm sorry I can't help you specifically since our procedures aren't the same, but I hope it goes well for you.

i had a D&C for that exact reason. There was no concern about cancer because they had done a biopsy prior to the D&C, however I'm pretty convinced that that doctor was just trying to milk my insurance. I had a lot of cramping post-op and they gave me pain meds, but I was ok in a couple days however I was told that it should have been sooner. My situation was a little more extreme though.

I have only heard of a hysteroscopy for removal of a polyp, not a D&C. I would be very concerned because this can cause scar tissue (Asherman's Syndrome). If your doc insists on a D&C for this, I would ensure it is an ultrasound guided D&C. Then, be sure they put you on hormone therapy for a few weeks and put a balloon in your uterus for a few days to prevent scar tissue. If you end up with scar tissue, your TTC will be delayed even more. I would also insist on a follow-up HSG to ensure your uterine walls didn't scar together.

D&c's are the leading cause of Asherman's syndrome. So many of us don't know we have it either and then wonder why we can't conceive. Scraping out your uterus can ruin your lining which is essential to the baby implanting.

I had a polypectomy when I had fibroids taken out. I'm not 100% sure how it was done (hysteroscopy or D&C), but I did get pregnant afterwards. GL to you!

I had a polyp that was seen at early stages of it's development. Got cured with pills only, no surgery required for me.

I had a hysteroscopy done to remove part of a fibroid, two polyps, and remaining pregnancy material. I had heavy bleeding afterwards and was uncomfortable with cramping. I would ask your Dr if he will be using u/s to identify the location of the polyp. With the scope, my RE could visualize exactly what he was doing.

I'm kind of in limbo right now, waiting on Op date and location. There are deciding weather to do it in the hospital or out patient center, due to minor complications I had in a prior surgery. I did however find out they are performing a d&c along with a hystocopy. Not clear as to why both but I plan on asking many questions. I am still spotting since wednesday's HSG. I'm curious if this is what they seen in the u\s. Can't wait to be done with this all.

I was supposed to have mine done at a out patient facility but my ins didn't agree so it will be at the hospital! I'm happier with that because if something goes wrong I'd rather be there! Ya know I'm not absolutely sure they will be doing a d&c with my hysteroscopy! I think I will call doctors office and check into that! I have to go to the hospital today to have blood work done, things are kinda rushed because he usually schedules surgery 6-8weeks out and he got me in in 3! Which is cool and worrisome for me! I just want it over and to be sure it's not cancer and I can move on!

Hi Merc remember me we were cycle buddies a few years ago... I never had a polyp but did have biopsy for cancer and thick lining. I was only given provera and another u/s to make sure the provera did it's job... Have you been on provera in a while? Just wondering if they tried that first cause I read provera can help when there is polyps too
