Default Provera s/e getting worse each cycle

I've been taking Provera for years. Sometimes a time or two a year. Sometimes more. Just to bring on my period, usually after 3 months or so so that I didn't get into any trouble. I would sometimes get side effects, sometimes not, never anything serious.

Since we've started treatments with my RE and Provera has been a regular thing every cycle, I feel like my side effects are getting worse every time. This is the fourth time in a row, so four times in about 6 months, and it has been 10 days since my last dose. Today I have literally spent most of the day in bed, feeling sore and achy all over my entire body as if I had a high fever (which I don't). My breast and especially my nipples are sore, sensitive, and painful. I have slight cramping, but more just exhaustion and all over pain. Going up one set of stairs and getting into bed makes me feel like I've been working out.

I've been taking ibuprofen pretty religiously this weekend, and at its peak, I feel better. My husband had some vicuprofen and I had two of those with dinner because it was getting to the point where my moodiness was bad enough, but with the added pain it was unbearable.

I'm hoping I'll get AF in the next day or so and this will lessen, but it worries me that it has gotten worse (and longer) with each cycle. I used to get AF within a few days of my last dose. Now it's stretching to 8/10/12. I don't know how much worse I can take it getting in subsequent cycles...

Has anyone had this happen to them?

I'm sorry - doesn't sound like fun at all. Why are you taking Provera every cycle?

I am guessing your taking it as your on clomid???

I am on the same and funny enough had first dose of provera few weeks ago which did bring on my period but I didnt feel very nice on them, hot flushes, achey and very low mood. Its a bit better since my period has come and gone. I have finished clomid dose this month and have to have a blood test on day 21 to check progesterone. Then back on provera if no period after 6 weeks.

I'm taking it because I very rarely get AF on my own.

Right, but what treatment is your RE using?

If you're taking something like Clomid, you have to be careful about Provera. Clomid can cause ovulation later than CD14 - it's very common to ovulate on CD20 or later. If your doctor is telling you to take Provera at CD28 with a negative pregnancy test you may actually be missing your chance each month. There shouldn't be a need to take Provera while on oral meds unless you just plain out didn't respond to them.

I've only had the one Clomid cycle so far and I didn't respond at all. I'm getting fully monitored, so bloodwork and ultrasounds every 3-4 days. My estrogen level didn't rise at all and none of the follicles had responded by my fifth visit after my last Clomid dose on Cycle Day 25 (also my birthday), so my RE decided to terminate the cycle. I'm not sure if she's going to up the Clomid dose or try Femara this round. We'll talk about it when I go in on CD3 for my next bloodwork/ultrasound visit. If she's upping the Clomid, I'd prefer to jump right to 150 or 200 since I didn't respond AT ALL to 50, but we'll see.

Oooh, ok - I misread your first post and thought you'd been through a couple of rounds already. My bad.

Of course you never know, but if they suggest trying 100 I'd probably give it a shot. I responded differently on two rounds of the same dose of clomid, while I only got one dominant follicle on each round the second round looked for a while like I may have had 2 or even 3. Hopefully she'll go for Femara though, many women say it has much better response.

I'm from Philly originally - are you in KoP area?

Yep! Grew up in Lansdale and live in Upper Merion now.

I did a few rounds of Provera in a row, with not being sure financially exactly when we'd be starting Clomid treatments and with trying to get cycles going somewhat regularly before trying, but this was the first one with Clomid.

Oh thank god... AF came this morning. Thought it was just going to be spotting, but when I got out of the shower it was full-on light, and even had some small clots. I'm probably in for another rough day or two, but at least I can see the light at the end of the tunnel right now! Thanks for all your support

I think I spoke too soon... Day 2 and AF is so heavy with lots of clotting. So much pain, still. I haven't slept for more than 3 hours at a time lately, and I wake up in agony. I can't keep taking my husband's vicuprofen... he needs them! And my temp right now is 100.52. My temps average low, and even at the peak during my cycle, I don't usually get over 99. Usually not over 98.5.

Calling my RE at 7 and seeing if I should go see them or my primary. I know there's not much anyone can do, but hopefully they can at least Rx me my own meds cause even 1000mg of Ibuprofen a shot isn't making me even slightly comfortable.

Hopefully this is all a good sign that my body is cleaning out and making room for a baby this cycle?

I am on my first round clomid for ttc this time round. I was told to wait 6 weeks if my period didnt come as sometimes it takes longer when your on clomid. The consultant said if I dont get a period after that then to start provera again. Thats obviously if I get a negative test
