Default 2 sacs, one heartbeat at 6 weeks

So I had my 6 week u/s the other day and surprisingly there are 2 gestational sacs. I about fell off the table! One clearly had a fetal pole and a visible heartbeat, the other had a yolk sac and my RE wasn't sure he could see a fetal pole. I am going back next Friday (exactly 1 week) to see how things have progressed. Just wondering if anyone had similar experiences and what your outcomes were. He said it is still early enough to not count that second one out yet and that he's seen them catch up. I guess if it implanted a few days behind the other one it would only be 5weeks + a few days and we wouldn't necessairily see much yet. I'm trying not to get my hopes up...I'll be thrilled with one healthy baby but now that I've seen 2 sacs I can't help but hope that they both make it.

I had a similar experience. I had an ultrasound at 6 weeks 1 day and saw 2 sacs, one was bigger than the other. The bigger one had a tiny baby with a heartbeat. The other one looked empty. My RE said it was still very early and could go either way with the smaller sac, however his gut feeling was that no baby would develop in it. I had a second ultrasound at 8.5 weeks and we had one baby measuring on target, and in the smaller sac we had a baby measuring half the size it should. It had a heartbeat of 80 bpm. There was a very large yolk sac, which can signify a genetic abnormality. I was told that baby would not be viable. I went back for a third ultrasound at 10.5 weeks and we only had one baby. The second sac was empty
I have heard of others that had better outcomes. A week can make a big difference with what you can see vs. what you can't. Good luck to you!!!

I had two sacs as well, but only one had a ys and baby with a hb. The doctor told us the other sac would just be absorbed. I am thankful for however many babies with heartbeats I can get, I hoped both would develop but am thrilled with my one growing baby!

For us, we saw 2 babies in one sac (that they could tell) at 6w5d, one with a hb and the other without. Our next u/s at 13w showed one very happy baby and the other had vanished.

No experience with twins but a few days makes a huge difference in the early weeks. I hope that you see two flickering hb's at your next ultrasound.

We had 2 sacs and 2 heartbeats at 7 weeks, although Baby B's sac was slightly smaller. At 10 weeks baby A measured 10 weeks and baby B measured 7w2d. The call it Vanishing twin syndrome, and it is surprisingly very common. I wish you luck, where your first US was so early, you may very well have 2 heartbeats when you go back, but I just wanted to share my story.
