Hi fellow kiwi cysters
I have been seeing Dr Mary Birdsall at fertility associates in Auckland, she is one of the top fertility specialists in NZ. She has been great, she has a lovely bedside manner and diagnosed me within minutes after being told many times I didnt have PCOS. I had previously had all the tests including internal ultrasounds which were "healthy". As soon as Mary saw my ovaries she was shocked that I had not been diagnosed. Mary has put me on clomid and I'm on my third and final cycle-which she monitors very closely. She said that we wont do more than 3 cycles and if this third one is not succesful we will explore other options. She has made me feel in control the whole time and has given me options. I am also seeing a wonderful acupuncturist who works at the albany fertility associates and also in ponsonby-Margaret Morris, Naissance natural health. She is a naturopath, Acupuncturist and Chinese Herbalist. Not only has she been helping with acupuncture (which has made my AF less painful, less acne and me more relaxed) but she went through my diet with me. Fingers crossed for a 2010 baby!

Haven't read the whole thread but I wanted to let any Auckland cysters know about Rona Wang. Rona is a TCM doctor (herbalist/acupuncturist) who also has western training. Her clinic is in Birkenhead, North Shore. www.ronawang.com One of her specialisms is PCOS.

I have been seeing Rona for 5 months. I have had PCOS all my life, as far as i know - because i've always had irregular periods (and acne). I'm now 36 and have been trying to treat my PCOS naturally on and off for 2-3 years. I do sometimes still get spots and I have a bit of facial hair, but the main problem for me is irregular and long menstrual cycles (usually 60 - 100+ days). I started seeing Rona on CD42 and that cycle ended at 75 days with no ovulation, I think. The next cycle was 81 days, and again, no ovulation. I was beginning to think that Rona's treatment probably wasn't going to work and had resigned myself to starting clomiphene and put myself on the IVF waiting list. However - I THINK I have O'd this cycle on CD 23?!?!?!? This would be the earliest EVER. Last time I saw Rona she said she was really pleased with my progress - I didn't really believe her because I didn't think I'd made any progress at all! However...maybe she was right???

Rona has been prescribing me chinese herbs, which I've been taking morning and night, pretty much every day for 5 months. Also, I've been taking: multivitamin, EPO, fish oils, NAC and - for the last ~6 weeks - 6g/day inositol. I also started riding my bike to work most days about 6 weeks ago. I don't know if it's a combination of everything I've been doing - but I'm surprised and still slightly un-believing that something finally seems to have worked. I hope it keeps working and I O again around about the same time next cycle...then I can actually TTC naturally, which is what I've wanted all along.

So - anyone in AK who wants to try TCM to treat their PCOS, it would be worth visiting Rona. The herbs are quite pricey (mine are $100 - $150 a fortnight - but it depends on what she prescribes), although Rona's appointment fee is only $25 for the 1st visit and $15 for every visit after that. She also does acupuncture - but she hasn't on me. Rona did say she thought it would take about 6 months before we saw any results...so maybe she was right?!?

I have recently seen Dr Natalia Andrieonova in NP. I would say she is ok, didn't find her to have a great lot of empathy but she did make a point of finding out all my history. She also did an ultrasound there in her rooms which showed lots of cysts (classic PCOS she said). My visit was mainly to regulate erratic periods and do something about my unwanted hair growth. She has put me on Ginet 84 (BCP) a six month supply. Willing to give it a try but I'm a bit nervous about it cos I haven't been on any meds for years, I've had my kids so fertility isn't an issue now as it once was. Anyway give this doc a try, I was impressed how she wrote everything down by hand, did'nt notice a computer on her desk. Odd for any doc these days!

I tried reading through to see if anyone had posted about Dunedin doctors but could only skim read as I promised my partner he could use the computer about an hour ago and have been stuck here reading so many threads!

Really want to change my doctor to one who understands if anyone knows of anyone. Also it's so annoying I have to post 5 times before I can PM someone! I wrote a really big PM to Fairy09 (Hannah) but couldn't send it! Boo!

Glad I found this. I've just found Dr Dean Drew that many of your have recommended and I am going to make an appointment to see him when he's back from leave in Feb (not cheap though at $85!!! Hopefully he can sort me out first time around)

I've been to Anna Fenton in Chch and found her to be expensive but good.
