    Question Can your ovaries hurt?

It's that time of the month for me, no . yet but everything else. The weird thing is my stomach is really hurting, but not like normal cramps. It's sort of on the side, and hurts when I push it. It can't be my appendix because it's mostly on the left, and my digestion is fine so it's not that. Could it be sore ovaries? Where are they exactly?

Yes! Your ovaries can hurt! Mine are really really tender most of the time. Gets worse around my period. You could have a cyst. What exactly are you asking, when you ask what are they? What are ovaries? What is the pain?

There is also something called "middling" that a lot of women (not just PCOS sufferers) get around ovulation time in the middle of their cycle. And it is often on the ovary that is releasing the egg. Some people can also have feverish symptoms at the same time.

Q: I have pain on one side in the middle of the cycle. What is it?
A: What you are experiencing is likely 'mittelschmerz'.
Mittelschmerz is German for "middle" and "pain." It is also known as ovulation pain or mid-cycle pain. It is a one-sided, lower-abdominal pain, but can switch to the other side the next month or stay on the same side for several months in a row. Mittelschmerz may occur just before, during, or after ovulation in about 20% of women and it lasts from a few seconds or minutes to several hours. Rarely does it last 24-48 hours, and longer pain does not usually come from ovulation itself but from bleeding or fluid irritating the peritoneum (the lining of the abdomen) or from endometriosis.
    Synospis of Symptoms of Mittelschmerz:
    One-sided, lower-abdominal pain
Pain onset is shortly before, during, or right after ovulation
Recurrent or with similar pain in past
Duration is typically seconds or minutes to a few hours, but may extend as long as 24 to 48 hours
It is usually sharp, cramping, distinctive pain
    Rarely, pain can be severe
Pain may switch sides from month to month or from one episode to another

    Hope it helps!

I said where. Are they really low like by the hips, or higher?

Ah, oops. It was late last night. My pain is like, if you were to put your hands on your hipbones? Like, right above the hipbone. I would say trust your instincts... if you have a hunch the pain is your ovaries, it prolly is. I told my doc that they were hurting, and she did a pelvic, and when she touched my ovaries, I about came up off the chair... she was like, "yeah, they're a lil tender". I was like, "A LIL??" So, I know the pains there were my ovaries. And it's prolly from them being polycystic, though I don't know for sure if I have PCO, cause they never did an ultrasound. (I know I have PCOS, but not sure if my ovaries are PC)

    Default Painful Ovaries

I can sympathise - even on the pill I had tender ovaries - esp around the time my period is due.

But one time I swear I felt one pop! It was either the egg comingout or a cyst doing something - now I know about cysts.

It is uncomfortable try a hug from a loved one, pet cat or a hotwater bottle - cup of tea and a nice weepy film!

I hope it gets better - take care of yourselves

    luv

Yup it would be my ovaries then. It's right in that area. It's not bad pain or anything, just when I push it, it's a bit sore. I've never felt that before so I was just curious.
