    Default Ir Diet

    Hi Japan

Could you explain the principle of the IR diet - I have seen so many messages on this site about it, but not quite sure what it is all about.

Is there a good book on it? AND can I get it in England??

    Thanks

Here are the basics as I remember them. I have't read the book in a while, and could probably use a refresher.

--For every 15g carbs get at least 7g protein. Never just eat carbs.
    --Don't exceed 35g carbs in a sitting (yes, that's a built in 5g "cheat")
--Once you've eaten carbs, don't eat anymore for at least two hours.

Other good stuff to keep in mind (not necessarily found in the IR Diet book)...
--Water and fiber are essential for metabolism. Get 8 8oz glasses of water a day for general health. For weight loss at another 8oz glass for every 25lbs you are overweight. Try to get some sort of veggie with every meal.
--Excercise increases metabolism. Protein builds muscle. Carbs feed muscle. Exercise improves muscle tone, thus burning the carbs more effeciently.
--The more fat you are the more fat you will be. Fat gives off it's own hormone. This hormone tells your body you need more fat. It's your bodies way of preventing you from starving to death, but western diet and lifestyle are using this power for evil and not good.
--The more insulin you have the more fat you will have. Insulin, as you know helps the body create fat.
--The more fat you have the more insulin you will have. You begin to see the vicious cycle. Now add in that hormone fat creates and you see how scary it can really be. It's enough to make your head spin, but the diet really does "turn off the fat making machine."
