Thread: BD every day or every other day....??

  1. #1

Cool BD every day or every other day....??

I am confused about how BDing every other day can lead to a successful pregnancy if an egg only lives about 12-24 hours... shouldn't we BD every day in that case?? i don't know am i a total airhead or does this just not make sense.... do you ladies BD every day or every other day?

    Thanks!!

Every day unless you have male factor. If your husband has a low sperm count it can help to do it every other day as sperm count will be higher if he has more time to regenerate sperm. The egg only lives about 12-24 hours but the sperm lives longer which is why you want to do it every day for several days before ovulation.

My RE says to BD every night for 3 nights starting the night I trigger with Ovidrel. Then every other night for a few days. You don't want to do it more frequently than every 24 hours so he has a chance to regenerate.

hmmm.. so what is this every other day business?? ... I just read "Taking Charge of your Fertility" and it said intercourse starting at CD8 every other day and then everyday during peak ovulation.... why even bother with the every other day business if that's not going to work anyway???

We did every other day from CD10-CD20 and were successful; my doc recommended that schedule and we don't have male factor. In fact, I was out of town with a friend on a weekend trip when I ovulated the cycle I got pregnant with my daughter. We'd had sex on Friday morning, I ovulated on Saturday, and then we did it when I got back Sunday night. It worked.

My RE told us every other day. My hubby has MF though so the RE said it would help his sperm recharge. Someone else already said this, but thought I'd mention my RE said the same thing. He also told NOT to BD the day of trigger, but the day after so he has it saved up.

The egg only lives 12ish hours but sperm can live 5+ days in good cm.

So the key is to get lots of swimmers there waiting BEFORE ovulation.

Every day, even every other day, sounds fantastic in theory. In reality, after a few cycles, when there is a lot of pressure on, it's not so easy. (At least not for Dh.) This cycle we're lucky to even get it in once every 3 days. Last cycle we were able to do it almost every day. I guess it just depends on the cycle and the couple...but...it's not always as easy as you might think.

Every other day, to be safe.

His test really should be the first one you do because it's way easier than all the tests they will put you through. Men are such babies about this stuff, it drives me nuts.

Ditto! That's the first thing my gyno and RE had my hubby do. Why go thru stuff yourself if it's not necessary?

Tell him to suck it up. Look at it this way -- would he like it if YOU refused to do any tests or procedures? S/A is a piece of cake. All they have to do is squirt in a cup. We ladies on the other hand have to strip and be examined, poked, and prodded repeatedly. If my DH had a problem with this he'd get a serious lecture, and that would be the end of that. S/A is the least invasive and usually cheapest part of this whole mess. If you're not going through any exams yet, then of course it's up to you... but the second I went to the doc for any sort of test/treatment I would insist my DH does the same.

haha ladies i hear ya! lord knows i tried... but the arguments about that were pretty loud... and if i brought it up again, im sure it would ruin my chances of getting any BD at all!! that being said he is fair and if we haven't conceived in 6 months or so he will get one =)...what about BD timing... do you have to do it at the same time like exactly every 48 hours or something?
