    Default Ponoka Alberta

please tell me there is hope... lol

I am moving, in just three weeks From Yarmouth Nova Scotia, to Ponoka Alberta where my DH has a job lined up there. I am looking for information on the town, and doctors that are near by... any help or info would be great im really nervous about going so far away from my family and friends and being all alone up there ( my husband will have to be away from the house for different lenghts of time )

It will be a hard adjustment, but Im excited, and scared and hopeful, We have had a hard string of luck latley and this is just something that we need for us. My family is taking it really hard. Im thier little baby girl- and they are having a real hard time grasping this fact that Im leaving. But Im going with my husband, I mean come on- he's my husband, where he goes I go. Thats what Wives do... and I mean I really do wanna go. There are just some things about this that really suck. I just found a Doctor I really like here, and who really wants to help me and is just so nice and caring... and now Im leaving. But again this is definatly for the best, and this is definatly what I want.

im sorry I didnt mean to rant. I need a friend and some info... if anyone could help me, Id be sooooo thankful. I also saw a few people from EDmonton here... thats only like 45 mins. away from Ponoka.. maybe a coffee meeting or something??? (( there is a tim hortons there right???))

Yes, there's a Tim Hortons in Ponoka and many many in Edmonton. I think (if memeory serves me correctly) there's also a Boston Pizza and McDonalds in Ponoka. Near the McDonalds there's a big grocery store that has great prices on perscriptions, or at least they used to. It's been a few years since I've been there. From what I know of it, it's a farmer town. You also won't be that far from Red Deer, closer than Edmoton and decent shopping.

My husband knows that area better as he grew up not far from there. If you have any specific questions I could ask him.

Moving far away is difficult but always an adventure. Whenever we move we give ourselves at least a year to adjust. Seems most people get really home sick at about the year mark and pack it in. Give yourself a bit more time than that to adjust to your new life.

Wish I could help more, I know how hard it is to move to a different place.

Hi there my name is Tannia and I live in Red Deer which is about 1/2h-45min drive to Ponoka. I see a Dr. Young here in town but I think you have to be referred to him. If anyone refers you to a gyn here in Red Deer and his name is Dr. Awad just say no. I have heard so many horror stories about this guy that it isn't worth it.

What smilie said about the shopping is true, there are two malls and tonnes of new stores always poppin up here in town, Although mom and I always hit Edmonton once in awhile cause we can't live without our IKEA or Old Navy. I don't know if I have helped at all but good luck. I don't know if I could live without my family near me, that would bite the big one .

P.S. any other questions just let me know.

well I guess Tuesday December 7th is our big moving day. Im getting scared, but its all good. everyone is still upset, but getting used to the fact that no matter what they say I AM going because its what I want and I deserve to do something that is for me- with the exception of my grandmother. she is having a fit, but again she will just have to get used to the fact that I am going and thats that.

Good Luck with your move Crystal! Hopefully the weather stays nice. They are saying we might have a brown christmas, so hopefully for your sake!

I have a co-worker who moved from there about 25 years ago. They still have family out there, but call this home.

Are you going to be working there? What does your dh do? My dh has some contacts in Wetaskiwin (about 20 mins up the road), if you are interested or looking for work pm me.
