Question How long can your period last with P.C.O.S.?

Can anyone please tell me if this is normal with P.C.O.S.,
Ok, I haven't took any meds in over, for financial reasons. Any way, I've been having what looks like a period, but I've had it 10 out of 12 months. My doc. doesn't seem to be concerned. But I find it odd. I thought I had to take b.c. in order to have a period. Will someone tell if I should worry or not? Thanks

There are many sides to PCOS.
Along with it, you could have other issues like fibroid tumors(sounds worse than it is)
    Endometreosis
    Andeomyosis

Finding out what is always the hard part.

I would suggest you contact your local Planned Parenthood and see if they can help. Many times they will provide free care if you qualify.

Is your AF non stop all month long for 10 months?

With more info, I can try to help wittle down the list.

Try to think of all your symptoms and discrib your period best you can.TMI i know, but it is key to help determine what it could be.
    Endometriosis (Infertility Cause)
    Andnomyosis (Infertility/Miscarry Cause)
Fibroid tummores(One reason for Non stop AF)
    Tubal ligation syndrome(Sister of PCOS)

Ok, it started out as spotting brownish like stuff. Then months later it would go ffrom spotting brown to spotting red. The it got heavier doing the samething with the red and brown. Before it stopped for about a month it was spotting brown again. And now it came back like a week ago (redlike a real period) and today it's spotty brown. When I first started having a period (when I was 12) I had 1 period then a few months later I had them regular. Then I want 2 years w/o having 1. That's the year I was diagnosed w/ pcos. up untill this year w/o taking hormones or bc I woundn't have a period. Thanks for your help!

sounds like you are lacking in progesterone! Have you asked a doc about progesterone supplements?

to: pattyannruss: the pain is moderate to servere, but not servere enough to go to the e.r. or the dr. for the pain. I just thought it was from the cysts (SP).

to: glowing: ive had 2 dr.'s check my iron and they tell me that my iron was normal. I wounldn't think so!?!

    Post well

When I skipped my last depo shot, I bled for 120 days straight. I mean, a REAL period, tampons et all. The doc told me I was "psychotic." Okay, buddy, look in your $f*1! trash can!

Since then, AF has ranged from 5-13 days long. On cycles that have only been over 28 days twice in my whole life (except depo). It's so fun.

My iron has always been "normal" also, although I have anemic symptoms--bruising, fatigue, etc.

    ~gineapig,

Me and my husband earlier this year, when I had been bleeding for months already, thought that I might of had low iron because I too had the symptoms. But I don't . When you have pcos you wonder sometimes if your period will come, and now I'm wishing it WOULD STOP!!!!!! also can you tell me what af means? ~Thanks

    Default af

AF = aunt flow, your period

Here's a few more I can think of...

CD = cycle day (CD 1 being first day of period and counting from there)

Man, I'm drawing a blank on more abbreviations. There's a sticky somewhere on them, I think.

Can you take calcium and vitamin D?

I would suggest you try it. It can help ward off some of the PMS symptoms.

Try to take a good multi vitamin as well.
Even if you only take it 3 time a week...it will be better than nothing.

    Check into Planned Parenthood soon.

I thought I would have to take progesterone for me to have AF. but for the last year that hasn't been the case. I called Planned Parenthood and they wanted $70 for BC and vist. that's more than what i would pay if i just bought it from the pharmacy. is there other benifits of planned parenthood i'm missing?
