    Default Question for the men

I know this has probably been asked before, but I haven't been around here lately....so sorry if repetitive....

Did you know about the PCOS before ya married/started dating, your significant other or when did ya find out?

And what was your first reaction and then thought process?

Thanks for your warmwelcome HollywoodMN...And to everyone else as well. I had never heard of PCOS beforeI started dating my GF. I was very glad she mentioned it to me early in our relationship, and helped meunderstand some of it's symptoms. I'd rather that, than find out the hard way. I am finding the resources here very helpful.

    Thanks for the reply....

I don't think many guys have heard of it unless a woman they know is dealing with it. So, I think it's great you are here and willing to learn this stuff.

You mentioned that you are glad she told ya about it earlier in the relationship.... why did that help you?

And why would it have been more difficult finding out later on?

    Very curious, LOL

I thought finding out early on was helpful for a few reasons... And forgive me if my humour seems in bad taste, it is actually in all seriousness.

    1) When she has mood swings, I won't think it's because she's just being a total... pain...

2)I have dated a schizophrenic before and when she didn't tell me that it kind of made things very difficult

    3) I want to support her to the fullest in everything. We both want full and happy lives, as well as family and even children. I want to be there for her. She really makes me complete, I just want to do whatever I can to complete her.

Answering for my Dh - He said he didnt really know what it was so it didnt really bother him. When I told him what it was he was a little worried because we wanted kids. He still really doesnt know much about it but he puts up with my excess hair and awful mood swings - He says I will love you no matter how bad it gets. Dont know if this helped at all.

    Default reassurance

More props to trudude here...sorry, don't mean to stalk you...

When my wife first got diagnosed, I didn't really understand the syndrome, and the scientific details (she tends to rattle them off at extreme speed, being a nursing student) just seemed to go over my head. Also, our neighbor has PCOS, and was able to get pregnant with properly timed medications or something, and I guess it just never really worried me.

But now learning about all the symptoms (man are there a lot of them) and about how restrictive her diet is, it began to hit home...

And then, like you said, it made me feel strangely reassured. Knowing that her mood swings, that her urgency to get pregnant, that the sacrifices she would have to make, were all related to one specific thing suddenly put it all in perspective for me. I feel like I can sympathize with her far more than I used to. Even if I can never have PCOS, I now have tangible evidence of the havoc it can cause in a person's life.

With understanding comes comfort, I suppose...

BTW this is atomic comic, logged under the wrong name, *doh!

I have to respond on my husbands behalf.

We've been together 5yrs this december, and married a year this june. We found out in april right before we got married what was wrong with me. Let me tell you he still married me after all the moodieness, the depression, the anger, the yelling screaming and crying, and tellin him evil things.

Not to mention all the things before we got married. One point i was flipping out over paper on the floor. Dumb drs put me on bcp and it was horrible.

Sence i've been diagnosed. He's been able to support me, he knows when things are getting hard.

Honestly he's been though as much hell as i've been thought lol.........he's always told me it's whats in your heart that i love about you and not what you look like.

I'm truely blessed to have him as a husband because he takes all 265lbs of me, dark skin patches, zits, evil hair issues, and the hair that clogs the drain all the time.

    blessed be

PhoenixRaven was diagnosed with PCOS soon after we met. She knew that she had some health issues but finally was able to put a name to the symptoms. I have been with her every step of the way and am trying to support her as well as I can, but us men know that it isnt easy. She can be irritable and still doesnt take many compliments that I give her. It has been a long struggle and hopefully one day will be able to start a family of our own.

My first reaction after I found out was how can I fix this. This isnt something that I could fix after all, but have been giving her my support as much as possible. One way that I could show her is to be on here. I am starting to explore the other areas here other than the games and getting to know you stuff.

Corrie, just know that I love you babe and will be there for you always and love you to death babe.

Tiggamoo and I dated for four years before we got married. It wasn't until the last year or so before we tied the knot that either one of us knew about PCOS, but like most everyone on this board, we sure knew something was going on.
We met on a blind date and I know it's a cliche', but it really was love at first sight for me. It didn't take very long into our relationship before I learned about the health problems she was having (mood swings, insanely irregular periods, periodic bouts of severe pain, extreme lack of energy, etc.). When she was finally diagnosed, everything made sense. It was still a battle, but it least we had an identifiable enemy.
The fact she was having these problems didn't in anyway affect my desire to be with her. If anything, all we've been through with PCOS and its various symptoms and issues has brought us closer and made our relationship stronger. We've been through some dark times, but it's shown us how precious it is to have someone to lean on. I would take her with her illness over anything and anyone else in the world, no questions asked.

I have to applade every MAN on this thread and on this board and whom ever are married to us SoulCysters. We put you thought hell and you take it like a grain of salt most of the time.

I've never see so many men who are so supportive and loving and caring as all of you are.

I really hope all of your wifes and g/fs know how truely blessed they are to have you. Realizing they have truely found thier soulmates and the silver lining in the clouds even during their darkest hours before dawn.

blessed be ladies you have men like you do, they arn't cookie cutter men so they are truely special.
