    Unhappy Newb and in pain

hello everyone, my first post, i have recently been diagnosed with PCOS. I am very fortunate to have a great ob/gyn she is very familiar with the diagnosis. She has some great ideas (or sounded like a good plan) i was put on met 500 daily and she increased to 1000 daily (will increase more as i can handle it) then she wants to possibly put me on the "mini" pill to stop my ovulation. I have alot of pain with ovulation, but now i have severe pain in my mid left stomach. not sure what it is from, she is checking my kidneys and liver functions to rule that out. i guess my biggest issue is, i sit at work at a computer and i have alot of abdominal pain. i just dont know what to do. My joints have been aching so bad.. cant even open a jar i didnt go to work today, cause it just hurts to sit there and i do luv my job. anyway, then my ob/gyn wants to (if the pain doesnt go away) scope me and possibly remove my ovary, i dont mind. i have two children and dont want any more. oh i also have an elevated prolactin level, yes i had an MRI and no pituitary tumor. i guess im just frustrated and i want to feel better, at least good enough to not miss work.
i have been reading this site for about a month now and just deciede to actually post. thanks for the great info!

    Default Welcome!

I think you'll find that if you get your hormones under control (the met will help this to happen) that you won't have that pain any more, or it will at least be tolerable. I'd caution you not to use the pill, even the mini-pill. That is adding hormones to a hormone problem, which causes more problems in the long run. It's treating symptoms rather than the disease.

    Post Thanks

Thank you for your reply, i do hope the met helps soon, i have been taking it for almost a month now. I really need to relieve this pain somehow, although i dont want to resort to any type of narcotics. And laying around on the bed/couch is not helping my PCOS in any way.
OH, a question, will i be on met for life? And if i get the option to have a hysterectomy, will that stop or lessen the effects of PCOS?

I would bet you also have adhesions from your troubles with that ovary.
That could be what is causing the other pain.
    Also don't rule out Endometreosis.
    Endometriosis (Infertility Cause)
    Andnomyosis (Infertility/Miscarry Cause)
Fibroid tummores(One reason for Non stop AF)
    Tubal ligation syndrome(Sister of PCOS)

I have the same pain on my right side. It sent me to the ER in early January. The referred GYN appt DX me with PCOS then. They said the pain was from the 25plus cysts on my one ovary, so the swelling and inflamation of having that many cysts caused my pain to radiate up from the ovary... hence why I have pain in the middle of my right side. Hope you find relief soon! I have to deal with mine as long as I am TTC.

    Hiya Girl,
See if you can get your doctor to refer you to an endocrinologist as well, seeing an endo may be able to give you some more of an idea to where you stand on the PCOS development chain, not to say that your ob/gyn can't help you, its just that some times endos can give you more insight with regards to PCOS because they can check your androgen levels and run some blood tests just to see exactly how much medication you should be on, and for how long. I saw mine when I was fifteen, and he was the only one that gave me any answers, the few ob/gyns I had years before didn't really know anything. But then, that was twelve or so years ago, they are probably better informed now. Good luck and welcome!
