    Angry Breakthrough bleeding with BCPs--constant!!!

I have always had horrible experiences with BCPs. I now know it has to do with the PCOS, but nothing has changed. I've tried about 15 different kinds of pills and every one causes me to bleed constantly. My doc insisted that I try them again to get my hormones under control. I have been on them for about 2 mos and started bleeding my 9th day on them. She put me on Provera for 30 days to stop the bleeding, which is did--for about 2 weeks. I started bleeding again last week and finished the Provera yesterday.

I go back in to see her in 2 1/2 weeks, but I know she is going to tell me to stick with it. She thinks after 3 mos that it will fix itself, even though it never has in the past.

Also, I have been so irritable that most of my friends just try to steer clear of me. It has been bad the whole time I have been on the BCPs, but it got 5X worse with the Provera. I am hoping it calms down a little now that I am finished with them.

I was just wondering if anyone else has had problems with the irritability and bleeding and what can be done about it.

Sorry, I don't know the answer to your questions, but you might want to post this on the Birth Control Pills board with the words "breakthrough bleeding" in the title.

i personally am not on BCP because i feel like they may control the symptoms to an extent but how will i know what my body is really doing? and once you come off of them you're back to square one (or worse off according to some cysters). I'm not sure what to suggest, I can see needing something if you're bleeding all the time. What about going and getting a second opinion though?

If you don't believe in BCPs, don't take them. Metformin will regulate your hormones MUCH better than BCPs ever could. IMO they just mask the problem, but don't treat it. And if they're giving you that much trouble I'm wondering if they're worth taking...
Met rules! It cleared my brain fog, brought back af, helped me lose weight, made me o' again, and helped me get pregnant. My first Metformin miracle is now 5 years old, my second (surprise one) just turned 2.

I agree that the BCP is more a hassle than a cure, but the Met hasn't been the cure all for me either that it should be. I've lost weight with it, but my hormones are worse now than they were, that's why she suggested the BCP's. And I had this problem when I was 16 and only weighed 125 lbs. I think I'm just one of the very unlucky ones that its gonna take a lot of work to get it all under control..... Thanks for you help.

    Thumbs down

If you haven't had any success like you're searching for, I would tell your phsyician, "the bc pill just doesn't suit me, surely there are other alternatives?" It sounds if you've tried over 15 different kinds of pills, then that should be a sign that you just can't take them, don't want to, and that they just do not give you what you need.

How about trying something different? I don't like Provera while I'm taking it, but it is the only thing that does give me a period. I would rather take Provera than ANY bc pill. I've tried most of them, they just don't work for me, the Provera does, so I guess maybe try that every 3-6 months or so...?

    HTH and hang in there
