I have used this recipe for years, and it is fabulous! My fav is white cake/diet sprite, white cake/diet cherry vanilla dr pepper, choc cake/diet cherry coke.

Sometimes, if I want a cobbler type cake, I will pour 1.5- 2 c frozen no sugar added mixed berries in a pan, then put the white cake/diet sprite mix on top. That's especially good w/some sf,ff whipped topping or ice-cream on top.

    Hey, lilpeanut and kirvygerl,

Does the diet soda provide the liquid or do you add the water as called for on the package, too? I had never heard of this, but will definitely try it the next time I want a treat for me and my family! What a simple, fun idea!

    Thanks for posting!

You don't have to worry about any liquid at all just the soda. It great!! Even your family will not know theres no added sugar or fat.

My sister-in-law sent me a version of this a couple of weeks ago and loved it!

    Here is her version:

    Orange Cake
    1 yellow cake mix
    1 can diet orange soda

    Icing
    1 container of Cool Whip
1 package sugar free orange jello

Cake: mix dry cake mix with orange soda, NOTHING else, and bake @ 350 according to package directions.
Icing: mix dry jello mix with cool whip. Ice the cake.

Thanks, lilpeanut! That makes sense. If I added the soda AND the water, I would probably have soup!

eeyoremom...that orange cake sounds yummy, too!

    Thanks for the ideas, gals!

still getting plenty of Carbs though! I ran cake mix through Fitday.com and here's the carb grams

"Total Carbohydrate 408.72g" dry cake mix:

if you're gonna eat cake, why not just follow the directions, you don't save that much by removing oil and eggs.

Per serving: 1/10 of prepared cake

    "Total Carbohydrate 25.22g"

In fact, removing the eggs, (cake mix has flour and sugar already built in) it is almost pure carbs!

I hope you're not too disappointed, but if you're LCing, this might not be the best treat to have even if it is delicious!!! (and it is!!) i used to eat this pre-LC....i haven't found a real LC version yet....sorry
