Default Started New BCP and Having Spotting

    Hi there,

Over the past many, many years, I have tried various different BCP's for an assortment of reasons. I was most recently on Diane-35 (I was only on it for 6 months). I have just changed to Cyclen (same as Ortho-Cyclen in the USA). In my third week on it (last week - Wednesday), I started to have breakthrough bleeding/spotting - it has been happening on and off (mostly on) since then. I am expecting to get my period this week. Is the breakthrough bleeding/spotting normal/to be expected? I have never had this when starting any of the other BCP's that I have been on over the years (it's always been a much smoother transition).

P.S. I am also on 2,000mg of Metformin and 50mg of Spiro.

yes it is normal. When you first start taking a pill it takes a month or so for your body to adjust. It will level out!!!!

This is probably a silly question but whats Spiro? Does it help hair re-growth?

I just switched brands also and I had a week of heavy cramping and spotting and I called my dr and she said to tough it out cause it takes a couple of cycles for it to level it out and get better

I agree you that you should give it a few months. THis happened to me when I first went on ortho cyclen from another pill. I will say that I also only got spotting on generic pills so I'd stay away from those. Ortho cyclen is much lower in progestin than other pills so spotting in the last half of the month is cause by this until your body adjusts. I would say by month 3 you should be fine.

I also notice if I am under very much stress, traveling, or getting too little sleep, I tend to spot. Could this be possible?

P.S. Spiro. has never caused me to spot on bc pills.

    Have a great day!

I switched bcps and tried a new one for two months and had two weeks of spotting each month, so I called doc and asked for a different one. He just sort of humored me with a new prescription and said it wouldn't make any difference, but I had no problems after that with a different pill. I had never had spotting with any other brands before, and haven't since.

In 2006 I cycled approximately 1800miles, hiked up 4 mountains, took a walking tour of San Francisco, hiked in 4 california national parks, swam in a pool with palm trees on my birthday, hiked and biked along the Oregon Coast, climbed to numerous breathtaking waterfalls, explored a gold mine, a silver mine and a cinnabar mine, and walked a fantastic loop along frozen streams and icecicle waterfalls at Opal Creek in winter.
