NO periods at all?

Hi everyone! I've been seeing an RE, and he doesn't think I have PCOS. Now, he's the expert and all, but I'm not convinced. I have some classic symptoms ..... no periods, acne, skin tags. I don't have the excess hair.

So my question is ... first, is there anyone here that has never had periods on their own? I've had them with BCP's, but never on my own. The RE had me take Provera, and I didn't get a period on that ......

That was me...I have only had 3-4 periods on my own since I had my first one at 14. Provera also had little effect on me. From what I understand there are 5 different classes of PCOS. Just because you don't have "all" the symptoms of PCOS...doesn't mean you don't have it. Welcome to SC...you'll find a lot of support here.

to SC! Just wanted to say that Goddess is on target with her response... there are more women who have "some" symptoms than there are that have "all" ... Can I ask what tests you've had done?

Do not listen to your doctor, he sounds like an idiot. Most doctors misdiagnose PCOS and you have to doctor hop until you find one who understands. It took me about 4 years to find a doctor that finally told me I had PCOS and another 2 to get the medication. The first doctor told me 'just lose weight' DUH! I was trying and I couldnt!'
Keep looking around, your symptoms seem pretty classic. I dont have excessive hair either.

As far as tests go ..... I've had EVERYTHING done! Most of my hormone levels were close to being normal, but he'd run them again and they'd be normal. So who knows.

I also had an MRI of my pituitary. Normal. Thyroid levels. Normal. Supposed to have an HSG. Haven't gotten around to it yet.

I have an appt back with my GYN in July. I'm going to fill her in and maybe she'll send me somewhere else.

OH yeah, and he said that women with PCOS usually start having periods in their teens, but they are irregular and then the periods may stop completely. When he found out I'd NEVER had one, he said then and there that I didn't have PCOS. Whatever. I should have realized then that that sounded shady.

I was very irregular when I started my periods (17yrs old) so I was on birth control. I went off of birth control when I was 19 and didn't have a period again. Got pregnant with dd and was on birth control right after I had her. Went off again 4 years later and it's been 2 years since I've had af.
Need the drugs to make her show hehehe

Before, I used to get a period about once a year on my own. The only other way was on BCP. After I started Atkins, I got my first period with no meds within 1 week of starting the diet. For the last 2 years, I have stuck with Atkins and have had a regular period every month since. About the doc...I think you should look into a second opinion. As the other ladies have said, not everyone has ALL the symptoms. That does not mean that you do not have PCOS. Good luck.

I don't understand why the doctor said you don't have PCOS just because you've never had a period on your own?

Doesn't make sense...

And to let you know, according to www.pcos.itgo.com a lot of women who DO HAVE PCOS have their bloodwork come back NORMAL!

i would seriuosly go and see a different dr. Back in 1999 I saw a Dr who told me i didn't have PCOS. Because he couldn't find any cysts on my ovaries. However I hadn't had a period in over 18 months. He told me that if I lost weight I would have normal periods. I asked him if that were the case then why did I not have normal periods when I was 18 years old and only weighed 118 Im 5'6" tall and by the time I was 26 I had joined the 200 club. I left the dr's office crying and I refused to go back for that matter I refused to see a dr. for over a year. In my opinion if you feel that you have PCOS there is a good likelihood that you do. If you are not satisfied with the carre that you are getting from your Dr. see someone else. It is your body. It has taken me a long time to get to this point. But since it is your body you have to take care of yourself.

You also have to remeber this it is a medical "practice". Practice being the key word here. The Dr's don't always know.

i started my periods when I was 13 and they stopped when I was about 16 and they nver came back on their own, I am now 26 , I have had them when I was on the pill. I stopped the pill about a year ago and no periods at all.

Recntly just registered with a new doctor and she has recognised that I have pcos. She has put me on Osetogen cream and I have to go back in 2 months to see her and she is going to discuss how to manage my pcos. So fingers crossed she is going to help.

I have had lots of doctors and they have all been pretty crap! Even for the smallest of problems , they just cant seem to be bothered. I once had a doctor tell me I had chicken pox and sign me off work, when it turned out I had been bitten a couple of times by fleas!
i can never understand why these people become doctors1

i have found more help and advice from people here then from people who are supposed to be qualified.

Well, I called the RE's office today and I'm getting my medical records from them to take with me to the next doctor. It should take a week or two to get the records and I have an appt with my GYN next month. I'm telling her everything ... she's the one that mentioned PCOS and sent me there to begin with!!!

I'm still convinced I have PCOS ......... I'll go to another doctor and more if I have to! Also, once I get my records, I can do my own research to see what my lab results mean.

hey, umm i'm kinda new here i, i haven't had them at all i'm 16 now and i can't talk to my mum about it and i'm to scared to go to the doctors i don't kno if i have PCOS, i read an article on it and i looked some stuff up on the net and i have most of the symptoms and i don't kno what i should do

I definitely know how you feel. I felt the same way! Do you have someone else you could talk to? A sister, maybe? I bet your mom would understand if you did find the courage to talk to her.
