Default Oklahoma City, Oklahoma -- RE -- Dr. Gilbert Haas, SUPER Dr.

I would like to recommend Dr. Gilbert Haas at the Center for Reproductive Health. There are sooooo many reasons I would choose this Dr. all over again. He is a very, very kind, compassionate, PCOS friendly Dr. He can recite PCOS stats at the drop of a hat. Even on days he was stressed, he still treated us with kindness and respect. He always had a smile and a warm greeting. He will take time to explain anything you are curious about. He will personally call you back if you have an in depth question. I could go on and on.

He doesn't waste alot of time. I got bloodwork and ultrasounds for nearly EVERY appointment. He is very dedicated to getting results. If there is a test you need or a question about your follicle size, progesterone level, he gets it done. I would get my blood drawn at about 8:30 am and have a nurse calling me back with results by noon or by that business closing day. I guess they did their own in house testing. Not sure about that but we got info FAST.

There are only two Dr.'s at his business, Dr. Haas being the "head" Dr. Well, I'm not sure about what their job levels are, but there is another Dr. there, he is younger and just starting out. So, my point is, you are going to get very personal care as opposed to the palce I will tell you about in a min.

The nurses at Dr. Haas' are out of this world. They are just as kind and gentle as he is. If the day had not gotten busy yet as it was so early, I would sit around and visit with one of the nurses after my appointment.

I do not believe Dr. Haas is a RE -- he is a MD, I am pretty sure. BUT ---- I promise you, this guy knows MORE than most Dr.s you will ever meet who know anything about PCOS. Okay, maybe that is a little strong, lol, but this guy is sharp. He knows ALL about PCOS. I aksed him how he knew he wanted to be a infertility specialist. He explained to me how he came from modest beginings and had a Dr. show interest in him. He decided he wanted to go into the medical field. He began in one field and decided he couldn't help people enough - he was introduced somehow to infertility and he thought, "Hey, this is a way I can REALLY help people." What a great guy.

I really do have to say this. I would not recommend the Bennett Fertility Institute through Baptist Medical Center - I hate to say that, but it is the truth. Their approach seems to be to get more people in and more people out as fast as they can. There are like 6 Dr.'s there and they all share a waiting room and receptionists - kind of felt like a fast food mentality or wal-mart mentality, lol. My Dr. kept telling me not to be in a hurry, that I was young. He didn't even tell me I had PCOS, his nurse suggested I ask if that is what he thought I had!!!! One day I was trying to ask questions and the Dr. told me he didn't have time for me that day and literally shut the door in my face. As we were walking out, no one said bye or spoke an encouraging word. He refused to do mid cycle ultrasounds and I got bloodwork twice the 8 months I went there, the first being the initial hormonal tests. His name was Dr. Eli Reshef.

I do know a lady who liked Dr. Kallemburger (I may have spelled that wrong) very much and he is at Bennett. I can not recommend him myself as I have never been to him but I am just trying to give a fair review.

    Default Love him!

I love Dr. Haas too. He's awesome! Just to add in my two cents, he does have his M.D. but he is also a RE too.

    Well Ladies,
I called an made an appt. Thank you soooo much for the advice and recommendation. I have been looking for a PCOS-friendly doctor and he seems to be a good one. Its good that he is an OB/GYN and RE in one....that would make my life sooo much easier.

I mean i have been to docotrs who I have explained what PCOS is all about and that gets to be discouraging.

Anyways, my appt is not until August 30th......which to me doesnt seem like long to wait...but the nurse was very apologetic about me having to wait until then to get in (it seems as though Dr. Haas has been on vacation and has a lot of catching up to do). The nurse I talked to was very friendly.

I will keep you ladies informed on how it goes.

    Thanks again,
    Toral Patel

    Default top notch!

I just called and made an appt the other day too. I go on the 23rd. I was supposed to be following a strict diet and have not been able to lose weight, so I was putting off seeing him again. However, I need to keep myself in check and stay current with my check ups. I didn't know that he did regular ob/gyn checkups, but I know he is qualified to do it. I go to him for my PCOS, but I have a local gynecologist for my annual checkup.

My first visit w/ Dr. Haas was so enlightening. The office environment is great. Just an advance warning, they will take your picture before you go in to see him. He likes to keep a picture of his clients in their file so he can picture you and remember that you are a person and not just a file. I was not prepared for that! He asked me what my goal was.....whether I wanted to conceive or whether I wanted to work on my health (control the symptoms). At the time I wanted to work on my health, so I left there feeling inspired and ready to go....but my motivation didn't last long. So, now hopefully I'll get it back and lose some weight before we try to get pregnant next year.

Anyway, I know there are some women who do not care for him, but I think he is top notch and I can't wait to go back. Isn't that funny? How many people actually look forward to going to the doctor? I definitely don't feel that way about all my docs...especially the dentist.

He is very friendly. I met with him a couple of times already and he did not tell me to lose weight once. He basically told me that there are two roads that you take when it come sto PCOS. Road one is if you are NOT trying to have a baby. You get your blood tests, etc and basically try to control the symptoms. Then, when you want to have a baby, you switch to road two....where you try all the routes that you possibly can in order to have your baby.

I thouhgt that was a very good way to look at PCOS....road one and road two. I think that you should give him a try and see how it goes. I loved him.....

I'm glad you all have found good things to report about Dr. Haas. He was the first doctor I saw when we moved to OKC. He was a total @$$hole to me, in which I later found out he was having some personal problems. Needless to say, he isn't my doctor anymore. I've since found a new doctor...

I hope nothing but good results for all of you who are seeing Dr. Haas.

For all you ladies that see Dr. Haas that aren't trying to conceive.... are you happy with him? I saw him for several years, but the last few times I did, he was very rushed with me and just told me several times he wasn't a gynecologist. I wasn't necessarily there to see him for gyn reasons, but he was listed in my PPO directory under ob/gyn, so I thought that was strange. He did come highly recommended and I really liked him at first, but in the end felt like I didn't get much attention from him because I wasn't TTC. But I haven't found a dr since to see about PCOS.

    Default Hmmm....

Well, I've seen Dr. Haas twice now. My second visit was definitely less impressive than the first one. See, my raving reply above... I think he is a very knowledgeable doctor with lots of accolades but he may be lacking a bit of bed side manner. I broke down into tears in his office trying to tell him about the depression I was suffering from. I personally think it was because of my birth control pill...he did not. Anyway, he sat there stoically as I broke down. My husband was in the room and didn't seem to make things any better..(that's a whole other story). He wasn't very supportive and told me firmly that he wasn't a psychiatrist and was not going to prescribe me psychotropic drugs (which was not my intent at all). I wanted to be on less medicine not more. I was also irritated that he didnt schedule any blood tests, didn't check my weight, or my blood pressure while I was there yet I was charged 70 bucks. I just basically sat there and talked to him for five minutes and left. Anyway, I think he knows his stuff but treats first time patients a little better than second or third comers....but that's just me. I'll probably go back to him though. It's frustrating finding the perfect doctor.

Not to hijack the thread (being about Dr. Haas but I go to Dr. Merritt. He is in the deaconess professional building and he is wonderful! He has never mentioned anything about my weight. He will sit and talk to you about everything and he works with a LOT of patients with PCOS. It seems every woman in my family goes to him. He worked with my aunt for 7 years and got her pregnant. She has PCOS and lupus. He is so nice and understanding. And I have lost weight since going to him, probably from the new does of met he put me on.
I went to Dr. Reshef and he is horrible. I wouldn't recommend him to anyone.
He wouldn't have even noticed that the met was working on me because he basically refused to do anything else until I lost weight.

I have heard a lot of great things about Dr. Haas, though. I actually went to high school with his son! LOL

My 2 cents.. for what its worth
