Default Out of control tryglycerides anyone?

I had a whole slew of labs run recently and finally got the results back. Everything was normal (even fasting Glucose at 99) except for the following . . .

Red Blood Cell count 4.19 Normal 4.2-5.4
    Eosinophils-ABS 0.00 Normmal .04-.40
    Sed Rate 23 Normal 0-20
    Cholesterol 214 Normal <180
    Tyrglycerides 465 Normal <150

So my triglycerides are off the charts. Ny family doctor (who ran the tests) said to do a better job with diet and exercise. Now, from the info she gave me . . . my diet is pretty dang good as far as controling/lowering cholesterol. So what do I do now? She wants to reevaluate in 3 months which sounds crazy to me with them being so high. What do you all think???

Also, does anyone know anything about the Eosinophils??? I tried to do a Google search on it and couldn't find much that a lay person could understand.

    TIA!

It sounds to me as if your doc doesn't believe your diet is what you say it is. Ugh. I hate that. My cholesterol and triglycerides were around 200 six months ago, despite a lowfat diet and excercise. They never asked to recheck them and told me over the phone to "maybe watch the saturated fats." How helpful. Well anyway thanks for reminding me. I'll ask to have them rechecked at my next apt in a couple weeks. Woo that is a hight trigl. number for you. I would ask another doctor just in case. Or go back in a month or so and ask for another test. It's probably nothing to mess around with, but I'm certainly no expert on the subject.

here is a good article on tryglycerides that has a chart on it as well... http://www.healingdaily.com/conditions/triglycerides.htm

The lower your eosinophils, the better! thye are a specialized white blood cell that responds to parasites and allergens. here is a link that can explain eosinophils in easy to understand terms, and even has a Q&A covering a zero level toward the bottom of the page... http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~aair/eosinophils.htm

I would not worry too terribly much though because your overall risk is also tied to your total cholesterol level, your HDLs and LDLs. I have an appointment tomorrow for just that reason, the doc apparently wants an appointment because my cholesterol is THAT bad *oops* I dunno what my cholesterol is, but I know it is over 300. runs in the family, even with skinny family members. I will have to let you ladies know just for comparison Best of luck

Thank you so much shellsalynne! Those websites helped quite a bit. Nothing the doctor gave me included the carbohydrate/triglyceride link. Now that I have read that, it all makes sense. I'm a huge carb addict!!!!! I know, I know . . . . not good for a woman with PCOS but I know many here can relate. So, while I don't eat a lot of fatty foods, the carbs I do eat are triggering my liver to produce the triglycerides.

*sigh* Low carb diet . . . here I come!!

    Thanks again!

woohoo! I got my results, and i should have a heart attack in about 10 years... lol

My cholesterol was surprisingly below 300, it was 283 (my paper says it should be less than 200 hehe)
My triglycerides were only 5 points over at 155
My HDL was 44, levels under 40 result in a higher risk of heart attack, while levels over 60 reduce your risk of heart attack
My LDL was SUPPOSED to be under 100, and for diabetics like me, under 70... but it was *gasp* 208! I gotta work on this, lol
until then, just call me "butter blood"

Birth control can also send triglyecerides through the roof, mine were like 250 before stopping the pills, now they are 140 and my cholesterol is pretty normal, my LDL needs to be lowered by 10 points. Also, if you need to be on birth control, I would really watch your diet and exercise, and if it is still high, in 3 months, I would go on Lipitor, it'll cut your cholesterol down steeply!

when i was first diagnosed, my numbers were all out of control but in particular the triglyecerides. my doc said that is very common with PCOS. she said the trig.s were off the chart with just about all of the women she sees who have PCOS. Now I am finally under control in all areas. I had to resort to meds though for a while. Now i have to - UG - EXERCISE EXERCISE EXERCISE (makes a huge difference for me). If I slack off, it is very apparent when I have my tests done. I hate it - it is like a little tattle tale telling on me if i feel like sitting on the couch for a while.... LOL No sitting and for me.

If you are not TTC, and can not get that number lower, ask about meds. You don't have to stay on them forever and they may help.

    Take care......
