    Default Got Bipolar?

Well, as of 5pm I was Dx with Bipolar. Its a shock not a really hard one though. The Dr that DXed me with this said it was mild. I am just wondering if any cysters have this and if you know if there is different types? I plan this weekend to be doing some searching on this I just don't have the time right now due to lots of school work. Thanks cysters for the help!!!!

    Stefany,

Here is a link to a very good site on bi-polar:

    http://www.nimh.nih.gov/publicat/bipolar.cfm#bp1

What is your doctor doing for you?

I have not been officially dx with it, but I have many of the symptoms. I am going to a therapist to help deal with it, it is helping and I have only had 3 sessions so far.

I bet your work load maybe contributing to your symptoms! I know when I get overly stressed I shut down and go into a depressed state. I have had episodes of mania and spent so much money my hubby had to sell his motorcycle to pay it off. I still feel guilty over that!

I wish you luck with your school work.

    Stefany,

You hang in there! It runs in my husband's family, and skipped a generation to my son. He is a pretty severe case, and he is going through the ECT right now. Since your case is mild, I would have to say you are blessed. Work with your doctor and find what medication works for you as quickly as possible, so you can feel better and not stress out those around you. My son has other issues besides just the bi-polar, but when he is not properly medicated, or the meds need to be tweaked, it's a nightmare for me and my husband. You are much more rational than he is though, so I doubt you will ever have the problems he does. I'm glad you were diagnosed so you can move on to feeling better, and hope the right meds are found quickly.

Hey, I am 27 and I have it. I was diagnosed very early in my teens. Yes there are different types of it. You should look up DMDA, it is the official webiste for Depression, Manic Depression. It is a great tool. You can PM me whenever you like.

Thank you cysters for all the info. This is still all new to me but I have always felt it was more then just depression. I feel I have a lot to learn about this and see what I need to do for it. Right now I am on Wellburtin SR and it seems to be making me more stable then I was. I will keep ya'll updated on how things are going. Thanks again!

I too am an extremely mild case. It was at it's worst when I went through a spell of severe sleep deprivation, so I try really hard to get enough rest. My former therapist didn't feel like there was a need to medicate at this point since I rarely show any symptoms. My last episode was in late March and it was the first one I'd had in over 5 years. Now though, I feel like I'm almost waiting for the next one. Good luck with this; sounds like you're on the right track to handling it.

Don't know if I've got it. If I do, it's rather mild - I can still function when I'm both up and down. I've got LOTS of the symptoms. Something else to talk to my therapist about!

Are you on a mood stabilizer as well as antidepresant? In most cases is you are just on a antidepressant it will make you more manic. I was misdiagnosed as a teen with just having depression and so I was put on antidepressants, man I stayed up all night cuz of the racing thoughts. I would frak out and clean the whole house and re-organize things as I was only 14. I was put on a mood stabilzer and it helped to control my mania. Let me know if you need anything.

As of right now I am just on a antidepressant. I am not sure if I will be on a mood stabilizer or not. I am still getting all basic info I can. I am working with my therapist on what type I have.
