    Default Vinegar & Metformin

I'm sorry if this has been asked before! I've browsed through the messages about vinegar and it's impact on insulin resistance. I want to try it. Here are my questions:

    1) I currently take Metformin, and I don't want to stop it (at least not now). Is anyone taking vinegar in conjunction with Metformin. Is that too much?

    2) Are all vinegars equal (Apple Cider vs. regular vs. red wine vinegar)?

    Thanks!

    Spironolacton 50mg/day

apple cider is the one I always see as touted for having health benefits... in particular unfilter or unpasturized or something... the big brand is Brigg's... if you have a Trader Joe's near you they carry their own brand of it.

My husband was recently DXed with Type II Diabetes and put on Met. For the first couple weeks, his blood sugars were all over the board. This past week he started drinking vinegar (about 2-3 Tablespoons in 16 oz H2O with about 7 drops of liquid stevia...not too bad) His blood sugar levels have come way down. It could be a coincidence, but I don't think the vinegar hurts at all.

    Hi Earcmra,

Vinegar does the same thing as Met without the side-effects, so you may decide to take it for insulin resistance instead of Met. I personally don't think it would do any harm to take them both at the same time, but you may wish to present the study findings to your health care provider to get a definitive answer; an ND might be more receptive.

"In these tests, vinegar had an effect on volunteers' blood comparable to what might be expected from antidiabetes drugs, such as metformin, the researchers reported last January in Diabetes Care. A follow-up study has now turned up an added—and totally unexpected—benefit from vinegar: moderate weight loss."

I prefer Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar : they have a long and respected reputation and give you a high quality product. They also have many loyal and even royal customers. I used Trader Joe's (had it on hand at the time), but switched to Bragg's... I compared the two and found Bragg's to be a superior product.

    Good luck! *hugs*

I've been drinking it straight up, with a water chaser to ease the burning sensation. It's like drinking hard liquor! haha, but with healthy side effects!

I myself, had to be taken off the Met. Mines is an atypical story. I was only on 500 mg once a day for less than two weeks. The doctor told me to stop the Met for a week and a half. I don't think it was due just to the combination of the Met with the apple cider vinegar. I was also on a healthy diet, taking the cider vinegar, and was had just begun exercising when I started to get hypoglycemic symptoms. I think that all of these worked to lower my blood glucose levels to the point that hurt me. I don't think this is a typical response however, just from reading the posts on here. Interestingly, when I stopped the Met, the debilitating symptoms completely subsided, even after I reintroduced the exercise and apple cider vinegar again, so it's definitely the Met that created that for me (even though I didn't have the adverse effects on the Met until I introduced the other recommended methods). But like I said, this is not a typical response, and I've read other posts about women being able to use both simultaneously without any problems.

I wonder if, instead of drinking it, you can pour it over food, like greens or potatoes, and still get the benefits?

Very interesting !! I was on 1,500 mgs of Met per day, but they were making me feel extremely bad. I started to develop acid reflux and gastritis so my doctor told me to stop. Anyhow I am worried my androgens will bump up because I stopped the met... I guess I am going to try the Apple Vinegar now !! do you know what is the dosage per day ? 1 capsule ? 2 ?

Actually the stuff that works is the liquid vinegar and around 2-3 tablespoons per day, there are a variety of ways to get it down.

Make a salad dressing with it.
dilute with water and toss it back(the easiest way)

maybe some others i can't think of....

Thanks for the info !! I was surfing the net to see more information and I found very interesting studies about the effects of Vinegar.

I read in a study that 2 tablespoons before each meal in water work as well as the metformin in regulating blood sugar. I was taking a pill of 500 mg of metformin per meal, so maybe now I can try the 2 tablespoons with water before meals. I have ordered the Bragg´s brand... I have a friend who can ship it from the States to my country.

    Let´s give it a try !
