    Question Hi guys...

    I'm new!
I was just looking up some info about PCOS after i noticed some different symptoms that were similar to those of PCOS...
I haven't been diagnosed with it...but I was just wanting to check it out...
I was wondering if anyone had any advice...
I am turning 18 next Monday. I've had issues with missed periods ever since I began, probably around the age of 11.
I've had a little abnormal hair growth lately...it kinda weirded me out...so I decided to research it a little. I don't have excessive hair growth, just a little abnormal for me...and it's only started recently, like, a little last year around this time...
Since I started high school I've been having issues with acne, and passed it off as something that all teenagers go through, but put together with irregular periods I got a little worried...I've also gained quite a bit of weight too...but that started all of a sudden in 7th grade when i gained 40 lbs in one year...
Any advice? or anything else you want to know?

    hey meganeuss, welcome to SC!
not everyone hase to show signs of the classix symtoms, let alone all of them!
you may have acne and not the extra hair!
you may have to the extra hair but not the acne (just an example!)
my best advice would be to go get tested, simple blood test and ultrasound did me!
and dont delay it, thats the worst thing i ever did was not get tested when i first thought i might have it! and try and find a doc that knos what they are talkin about (that was my biggest problem to begin with)
go0d luck and let us kno how it goes!

It may be PCOS it may not be. Talk to a doctor about it and get it checked out. I wish you all the best, and I am here anytime you need to talk.

    Thanks guys
I talked to my mom about it...she seems pretty set against the fact that I have it...
I was diagnosed with Cushing's Syndrome when I was younger, and was put on different types of hormones, and she thinks that's what is leading to this...but i stopped taking those about 4 years ago...everything...so I dont think that's what it is...possibly, but i just dont think it is
I want to be tested. I'm kinda scared about it though...and I can't really do it unless my mom stops being oblivious to my issues and realizes there's something wrong that needs to be addressed, whether it be PCOS or something else...
    anyway...that's my rant for today..hahaha
thanks for the support you guys

I have the exact same problem with my parents...my parents refuse to acknowledge that I have this problem. Just dont fall into trap..if you ignore it..it goes away. Get it tested...keep presisting until your mother will take you...it's the best for you...and that's who you need to look out for..yourself. Remember that your mother doesn't have to deal with this for the rest of her life. I wish you the best

My dad can be like that....he has his own opinions and forces them on me. My attidute is that it is my body and I am going to do what I think is right by getting the proper help. If it does turn out that you have PCOS we're all here for you, if it turns out you don't we'll still be here for you.

    Welcome!

I actually discovered PCOS by reading Seventeen magazine and recognizing every symptom and going "OMG that is me!!" it took me a while and a few doctor visit's and tests to finally be diagnosed, but my Mom was very supportive. I knew I had PCOS, it was just something I felt and knew I needed to have it seen about. Both my OBGYN & Endo did all they could for me.

It is a 50/50 thing lots of times, but my advice is for you to get it seen about. If you need to convince your parents, print off information and explain to them why you feel the way you do. Most importantly, get checked out if you feel like you should. Always go with your gut feeling!

    Good luck!
