Default Montreal Doctor Help( please )

Hello Ladies, I was wondering if i could take a few minutes of your time and explain my situtation and ask a little help.

I moved to Montreal 18-12-2001 to be with my now husband , we were married 01-11-03 and have almost completed my immigration. I have found a GP that barely speaks english , and i might add barely french so even my husband has a hard time understanding him. I am looking for a GOOD doctor who speaks english well enough to understand what i am say, and understands that i am not ingnorant. I understand that the doctors up here ( the good ones ) are few and far between, and if they except new patients that there is a waiting list, ik dont mind being put on one or even having an appoitment for 6 months away , i am just looking for a good doctor.

I am also looking to see if any of you women have had experience with any of the Infertility Clinics up here and which one you have , if so . I am not even sure if there are any RE's here , I am just looking for some help . I have started seeing a GYN and he's good , but said if the clomid doesnt work he will refer me to Infertility clinic.

    Thank you for your time
    Shelly

Welcome to Canada, and congrats on your marriage.

I don't know that a language barrier constitutes a doctor at being 'good' or not. I know it is difficult to find family doctors these days in Canada. There is a great shortage. Many of these immigrant doctors come from their home countries fully educated, yet are forced to go through school again here to be legally recognized. If anything, I would think of them as 'better' then the mainstream for this reason.

However, language is a big deal. If you cannot communicate with him, perhaps request that a translator be there? It isn't an uncommon practice in a country so multilingual as our sweet Canada.

As far as your fertility treatments go, I don't think a regular OBGYN should be treating you with clomid. I think you should go staight to the infertility specialist for this sort of thing. They can better assess your fertility needs and treatments.

I'm sorry I'm not from Montreal so I am not all that familiar with the services there, but I'm sure other cysters on here can help you out in that department.

    Take care, and best wishes

    Thumbs up

    Hello there!

I live in the West Island of Montreal. I have a FANTASTIC endocrinologist (is that how you spell it?). He's given me some great prescriptions that have been very helpful. He'd probably be able to refer you to a fertility clinic as well. He speaks with a slight accent (I think he's Hungarian?) but he's very easy to understand. He also speaks French very well.

He is in a clinic across from the Lakeshore General Hospital in Pointe Claire.
    Dr. Skemene's phone number is:
    514-697-6402

    Hope that helps! GOOD LUCK!

I want to thank you two ladies

Right now i am seeing an Ob/GYN namded Dr.Guralnick, he's a very nice and friendly man. I live in Montreal-Nord. The Dr. said he would be refferring me to a Fertility Clinic if the three months of clomid he prescribed doesn't work.

I have been just searching , finding a English speaking ( one that speaks english good ) is hard to do. Sometimes i actually misss Texas hehe

    Thank you once again
    Shelly
