Hi All,
My name is Melissa and I am somewhat new to PCOS and the message board. I was just diagnosed 9/22/2005 and have been lurking around for the past month or so. I thought it was time I finally emerged because I can already tell that this message board is going to be my lifeline.
I am 24 years old (25 next month!) and a newlywed. My husband Wendell and I got married in July after 4 years of dating. Initially we were going to wait to have kiddos until I finished college, but with the PCOS diagnosis we decided the time was now. It's amazing how much more important children become when you think you are going to have trouble conceiving!
My symptoms are chronic acne, slight hirsutism on my neck and sides of face, irregular periods (I always get them, but they can be as far as 6 weeks apart), and today an ultrasound showed that I definitely have the actual cysts on my ovaries. As many as 12 on the left side, but only two on the right (good, right?). My doc thinks that I probably do ovulate some, but not necessarily every time. I am a thin cyster who has a family history of PCOS, diabetes, and heart problems. Definitely makes you want to stay healthy when you are young!
I am stepping up to 1500mg MET tomorrow, have been on 1000 for the past month. He wants me to step up to 2000 if I am not pg in three months, and come back to start Clomid if not pg in 6 months. I'm hopeful!!!
Since PCOS does not control our lives, a few little things about me: I am a singer. My husband is a high school English teacher and (once I graduate) I will be too! I work at a medical equipment company between San Antonio and Austin. We just bought our first house. I love kids. I have one brother who is 11 years old. Same parents, just a lot of time in between.
So that is me!!! I look forward to getting to know all of you! Thanks for all the information you have already (unwittingly) provided to me! Its been so helpful.
Melissa
