I have gone to the orientation, and done all the pre-op tests, now just waiting for a surgery date. There is so much info out there about it, read up as much as you can.

I had an Open RNY over 3 1/2 years ago. I am very happy with the results.. Just make sure that you have a doctor who follows you closely post-op- and is familiar with gastric bypass patients needs. We really do have special needs post-op.
I developed severe anemia at about two years post-op and my PCP tried treating it orally for a year (CBC and Hemeglobin looked normal but iron stores were at low end) . It didn't work and I finally had to have an IV Iron infusion.
All that being said I haven't had any other negative results. I was finally diagnosed with PCOS because of the surgery. I began gaining weight at about seven months post-op because of the elevated Testostereone levels. Make sure you have your PCOS treated properly before and after surgery.
Good Luck

My Mom is currently 3 weeks post op and she is doing great! She is back to work and looking wonderful already! If you feel like this is for you it sure is worth it! If my insurance would pay for it I would do it in a heartbeat! I definately check out obesityhelp.com my mom got some wonderful information from there and has made some great friends.
I have had it and would recommend it to anyone who's really serious about losing weight. I know that it saved my life. It also is the reason I could finally get pregnant. Every time I see my surgeon I tell him "Thank you so much! You changed my life!" and he says "I just did the surgery, you changed your life!" Really there is a lot of hard work involved before and after surgery, it 's not just a quick fix like some people think. But it's totally worth it. Check out the Weight Loss Divas thread over on the Diet & Exercise board. Good luck with your decision!
It is so great to hear stories of Ladies getting WLS then getting pregnant! I have no medical reason for not getting pregnant, other than my weight.Originally Posted by Leigha789
