Default Miscarriages caused by PCOS - anybody esle?

I've just been diagnosed with PCOS and insulin resistance. I've been put on 500mg of metformin twice a day and have to change my diet (which is a nightmare as I'm very slim and lost half a stone in the first 2 weeks of the diet!!!).

I have no trouble conceiving (I managed it 3 times in 8 months but miscarried at 5 weeks on each) This does happen with PCOS apparently. I was told that due to my insulin resistance my ovaries are producing basically no oestrogen. I'm rubbing Oestrogen gel into my legs twice a day at the moment! I've been told that once I get my insulin under control my ovaries should start working again and I will be able to go through the 9 months without miscarrying.

    Anybody else had this?

Yes.. and no. I was able to concieve at one point in my life like you. However since then my body has shut down. The good news is that with met your chances of a MC are reduced. As for the whole IR deal- well my body is running a little low on estrogen but its still in normal ranges. Drops in estrogen should trigger your body to ovulate. Thats the theory behind Clomid. Good luck though hun. Maybe someone else can help you more than I can.

hhhmmmmm, thanks for your reply. So that's why I can get pregnant easily (low oestrogen) so I'm ovulating. I'm back on the pill at gthe mo but would obviously like to try again.

Maybe the metformin will give me more hope of not having a miscarriage next time? My specialist said the miscarriage was because my oestrogen was low so implantation could not occur.

Try the TTC, the Mommy, or the Coping with Pregnancy Loss boards. I'm sure some of the gals over there can help you. I know that miscarriages can be caused by low progesterone, which is related to PCOS. Good luck finding the help you need to carry successfully to term.

Yes, I have been there. I didn't quite get pregnant easily, but with fertility treatments I got pregnant 6 times in 3 years and lost them all. For me, I had to change my diet to be able to carry a baby. It took me a long time to realize this. I went on a low carb diet and stuck to it during my pregnancy. It helped regulate my body so I could carry. I still didn't have a perfect pregnancy, but I had a little baby at the end, so that's as perfect as I need. Good luck.

Yes, I have had that problem as well. I was pregnant only once and miscarried about the 5th week as well. I have not been able to conceive since. It has been a very frustrating ordeal. I was 17 when I got pregnant and I am now 28 (next week). I was dx with PCOS when I was about 21. I was very bitter for the longest time. I couldn't even go around pregnant women or people with babies because I was just so angry. I've gotten away from that now and kind of realized that I wasn't ready to get pregnant yet anyway. I'm hoping that it will happen someday, but for right now it was kind of a blessing as I do not have a whole lot of stability in my life. I've also since then gotten divorced and ended up with a very mentally abusive bf (left finally tho about 2 months ago), so I look at it this way...those are two situations that I am glad I didn't have a child. I couldn't have put them through that. Although, if it weren't for the PCOS, I may still be married, because PCOS put a HUGE strain on my relationship!
