Question Has anyone tried Mircette or Yasmin?

Hi, I'm thinking about going back on the pill to loose some weight and get my period again. My only pcos sysmptom is missing periods. No thyriod,no acne,no hair growth or lose. I was wondering if anyone has had luck in the weight department and AF dept with Mircette or yasmin. I have about 10 pounds to go...I walk everyday about 45mins and eat healthy. I really think my weight is pcos related. Thanks!

Hey Jess! I gained about 15 pounds before I was diagnosed this summer and, because my husband and I aren't what we're going to do baby-wise, I started Yasmin. I got my period with just my first month on it! What I like about Yasmin is that it's a mild diuretic so it helps shed all that water weight, I've already lost six pounds! I also was on Mircette back in college and it worked well, too, although my doctor recommended Yasmin as it is mostly estrogen which is what us PCOS girls are lacking. I also had skin like a teenage boy and it's getting better every day. Hope this helps! Oh hey, where is Massachusetts are you? I'm originally from 40 minutes north of Boston.

I have a lot of friends that went to Framingham State College. I miss MA but moved to New York when I got married. Still hate the snow though

    Default balance is the key

Um, I'm PCOS and I bomb out with extra estrogen. Heavy estrogen pills like Ortho Tri Cyclen (the original) spiralled my weight out of control. I think definitely us PCOS gals have a lack of progesterone, or something to balance estrogen, if we don't ovulate by ourselves--isnt' that what PCOS is all about? LOL .

So guineapig, do you think if I gained on Ortho-tri-cyclen I would probably gain on Ortho Cyclen because of the estrogen level being the same? I don't really understand what makes some of us gain on pills. My OBGYN and my GP keep urging me to go back on the pill but I am not going to reverse the Met's affects with it. What do you think?

Gosh, I don't know for sure! I know ortho tri cyclen is a triphasic pill, with parts of the month that have little or possibly no progestin to balance the estrogen. Ortho Cyclen is monophasic, which has progestin in a good amount all the pills all month. I did lousy on both ortho tri and triphasil, although I worked hard while on the triphasil & was able to lose weight. Not so on ortho tri, plus it gave me awful, teen-boy acne--no other pill had ever done that.

My dr. just put me on Yasmin for two MAIN reasons (well other than to clear up my ovaries-somewhat so we can continue TTC).

    1-Low risk of GAINING weight
    2-Helps reduce excess hair growth

Hey, I can't complain about those at all. I am only on my 3rd pill, but I've TRIED so many pills.

ZOVIA-Bad-had breakthrough bleeding WAY TOO MUCH
Orthotricyclene-It worked great other than I gained weight on it
    OrthoNovum-No complaints
Ovcon 35-No Complaints other than my ins. would not cover it so I paid out of pocket.

I think that Yasmin and Diane 35 will help with the excess hair, but if you don't have that...then its not a big deal. My dr. did say that it will help with not gaining weight which is important because I've got lots of weight to lose

I was on Ortho Tri Cycen and I hated it. I developed depression and gained weight. I switched to Mircette about 9 months ago and I love it. I haven't had any problems with it at all. I just couldn't handle a high estrogen pill.
