    Question A feverless flu ??

Anyone out there who have practically all of the symptoms of a flu virus without the fever?

I have the body aches (especially my dear lower back!), tiredness, shortness of breath, feeling faint-like, occasional dry cough, slightly runny nose, but my highest body temperature reading was 97.6. Actually my reading earlier this afternoon was 97.0 (?)

I'm wondering if this a flu virus, or some other kind of virus

I had that a few weeks ago, and my mom had that a few weeks before that. Don't know what's up with it, but I guess it's possible to have a virus without a fever. It only last about 36 hours, though, so that might have something to do with the lack of fever. If your body can fight it off easily, it might not need to generate a fever. I slept for about 20 hours during that time.

I had about the same thing 2 weeks ago. I have asthma and ended up going to the doctor because of wheezing. He said it was just the average respiratory virus that had been going around. Several people I work with had it at the same time I did or got it the week after. It lasted about 3 days and was gone with the exception of the runny or stuffy nose. I had trouble sleeping at night and took the Tylenol PM cold medicine. It really helped. Hope you feel better real soon.

    Thanks, ladies.
I hope this virus doesn't last too long. I came down with this Tuesday evening. It's Saturday morning and some of the symptoms are still here.
I'm about to go and do some grocery shopping, so maybe the light exercise and sunshine will help some.

Yup same symptoms here, I find though when I have the flu without the fever I feel ok one day the next I feel awful and it goes along like this for its course. I started feeling rough on Thursday, Friday I felt better, but today I couldnt get out of bed for most of the day due to aching, pain, coughing etc... did my temp and it was fine. Thankfully though I get the flu jab every year so don't ever come down as bad as I used to with the flu. Hope you feel better soon..

the flu doesn't always cause fever- the general rule of thumb is a bacterial infection causes fever and a viral infection doesn't. i think. i'm a little sleep deprived right now...

    Thanks squidge.
It was too cold in the building where I work today. They cant seem to get the temperature right in that place!! Now I've started coughing.

I was wondering about this too, isenephthys. But every site I visited about flu symptoms listed fever as the one of the main symptoms, headache topping the list as the typical first sign.

It's comforting to know that others have gone through this, and I'm not crazy after all.

Mine has been going on for a week now and I am fed up with it now....lol The other day I didn't sleep for 36 hours didnt matter what i did I was wide awake. Then lastnight and the night before i have slept most of the day.. one inute i am hot and need to strip off and within minutes i am freezing and have to wrap up again, still no temp thank heavens i would really feel worse if i had a temp. Considering though my days and nights have been mucked up my diabetes hasnt been to badly controlled, the highest my sugars have been is 10 (UK measurement) or 180 (US measurement). Normally when I am ill my sugars shoot up to the sky like a rocket, so I am happy that they are only up a little.
I remember at one place I worked the temp dropped as the weather went through a really cold patch, and the heating went in the building where i was working. We managed to get a thermometer and we were working in below the agreed level. (It was so cold we were wearing our coats and gloves), we complained to the manager and next day the thermometer had disappeared... but the heating wasnt sorted out for another week.
