Thread: Metformin - what new h*ll is this?

Default Metformin - what new h*ll is this?

As some may recall (or not) I was on 1500mg, reduced to 1000mg for a month due to my dr, then raised back to 1500mg cuz 1000mg didn't do the trick.

And even though 1500mg was great for 2 months, somehow raising it back after 1 month has caused major symptoms for me (3 weeks of tummy issues and fatigue, finally subsiding now).

So I'm starting to feel pretty good on my 1500mg again but now AF is due momentarily and I am WICKED dizzy, queasy, blicky feeling today (and lightly spotting). What is THIS new symptom? I'm prepared for the cramps from heck. I'm prepared for the mood swings and acne. But what is this rollercoaster that's makes me feel motion sick whilst staying still?

    Anyone get this? advice? BLICK!

Thanks Tara. AF started today and I feel much better. I think this was just another new symptom. Wahoo!!

Thanks too for enjoying my glass beads. I make them all by hand. It's the best job in the world!

Wow, yes, your artwork is amazing!!!!! Man, I wish I had that kind of talent

Anyway, when I went from 1000 to 1500mg Met I, too, was dizzy, lightheaded, and just all around feeling REALLY bad. I've noticed that I also get PMS symptoms much earlier than usual... maybe even a full week or 10 days before hand!!!

YES! I'm noticing more PMS stuff. It's funny because part of me hates having to deal with all this 'girl stuff' that for years I just didn't have at all, but part of me is thrilled to be seeing the process. The thrilled part isn't the one that cries at the drop of a hat now though, that's the not so thrilled part!!

Thanks for your kind words about my glass. I joke with DH that though the income is important, the praise of my work is what I live on, lol.

Uh oh. Beads? I'm like a bead freak. I love lampwork beads for making jewelry. Will go browse your site

If you lived near California, I'd trade ya beads for accommodations at my inn

LOL thanks Christy, you are funny. I actually travel to CA a lot (grew up down in North San Diego County) but I tend to go to the Southern end. In fact I'll be out in January for about a week but I don't think Northern CA is on the plate this time.

BUT knowing there is an INN in Northern CA where DH and I could trade beads for sleep may be inducement enough in the future!!

    Thanks again .

    WICKED dizzy, queasy, blicky feeling
Sounds like low blood sugar which can happen on met. If you eat small smacks every few hours, it should help a lot. GOOD LUCK!

    Hi everyone,
I was hoping I could join in on your chit chat. I have not yet been diagnosed with PCOS but have an appt tomorrow with the co-director of the Drexel Center for PCOS here in the Phila. area so if anyone will take me seriously, he should. My regular gyn wouldn't even entertain the idea. Said I did not look the part. Apparently, I am not heavy enough a girl to be taken seriously...since when is PCOS a plus size issue only??! Anyway, I started the SBDiet a few months ago and the decrease in sugar and carbs did wonders already. I got two pds in a row, right on time where as I usually only get them 2 or 3 times a year! I used to be that girl who would barely get them and when I did, never had cramps and the cycle only lasted about 3 days. I was the envy of everyone but I totally get it when you say you actually get excited to have it come and relieved that you are finally getting cramps like everyone else...me too! The last 2 pds were particularly heavy and uncomfortable. Making up for lost time, I guess. I hope this dr. will find that I am insulin resistant like I suspect as I think that will help all the more if treated. A couple of years ago, I was trying to conceive and my endo put me on metformin bc he said my body works twice as hard as the average person to burn sugar and it was resulting in poor egg quality...he never mentioned pcos though or anything about "insulin resistance". When I decided to stop ttc, I guess he no longer considered me his problem. Nice. Anyway, good to hear similar stories. Wish me luck tomorrow!

Hey - I think Christy is right - it is your blood sugar. I just started Metformin and I'm on week 3. I'm right now at 1000mg.
I notice that when my blood sugar is low, I feel like I'm on a rollercoaster (or like I just got off one). Like everything is swaying back and forth.
By increasing my little snacks and also cutting back on sugar, that has helped a great deal.

I also think that these swings got worse around my period (today - yippee).

Good luck - I hope you feel better.

Thanks Christy and Molly. I'll have to watch next month to see if it happens again near AF and will test/eat and check. I'm pretty good at maintaining a blood sugar balance with my diet but maybe right before AF it's off kilter or something. Thanks for the input.
